Data drives progress, but unlocking its full potential requires more than just technology because it takes ownership, direction, and the ability to turn complexity into clarity. As a Senior Consultant Data Engineer at Rockfeather, you lead the design of modern data platforms and guide clients in building solutions that are scalable, reliable, and built to last.
At Rockfeather, we don't just build data pipelines, we take clients on data journeys. As a Senior Consultant Data Engineer, you are the person who makes those journeys memorable. You translate messy, real-world data problems into solid, maintainable solutions that clients can actually own and operate after you leave.
You work independently on client projects, which means you make the right calls without someone looking over your shoulder. You know when to keep it simple, when to push back on scope, and when to ask for help. You build things that last. Not because someone checked your work, but because that's your standard.
You are not just a builder. You are a trusted advisor. Clients look to you to understand what good looks like, and your teammates look to you to raise the bar. You share what you know, flag what you see, and leave every project in a better state than you found it.
Job Requirements- At least three years of hands‑on data engineering experience, preferably in a client‑facing or consultancy setting
- Strong experience with the Microsoft Azure stack. For example, Data Factory, Data Lake Storage, Databricks, SQL Server. As well as the confidence to work with what the client fits and/or has, not just what you prefer
- Solid SQL and Python skills, and the data modelling experience to back them up
- A track record of translating business needs into data solutions that actually get used
- The communication skills to hold your own in a room with a CFO and a DBA on the same day
- Fluent in Dutch and English
- Based in the Netherlands
- Design and build data platforms across the full stack like ingestion, transformation, serving, orchestration, and security
- Work directly with clients to understand their needs, challenge their assumptions, and guide their data journey
- Make architectural decisions and stand behind them, with the guardrails and principles of Rockfeather as your foundation
- Deliver solutions that another team member can pick up and run without asking you anything
- Mentor less experienced colleagues. For example, in code reviews, in sparring sessions, and by simply doing good work visibly
- Stay ahead: flag risks early, communicate before being asked, and ask for help before it's too late
- Contract: Fixed‑term contract of 9 months with the intention of a permanent position
- Working hours: 40 hours per week
- Salary: €4,725 – €5,750 (depending on experience)
- Holiday allowance: 8% holiday allowance
- Year‑end bonus: Paid out in March – April, based on FTE and company results
