We are looking for a new colleague who would fit in our team. This means that you are a standout colleague who is motivated to advance the group’s research and education as well as your own research and education.

• You preferably have some years of experience as a postdoctoral researcher after obtaining your PhD degree.
• You have a good statistical background (e.g. Spatial econometrics, instrumental variable analysis) and knowledge of various research methodologies (e.g. Survey techniques, agent-based modelling, behavioral experiments).
• You are passionate about connecting your research skills to research opportunities in the urban and urban-rural context.

We prefer individuals with research interests that are centered in the urban area and with possible spillovers to other areas of emphasis in the group, including behavioral economics and health economics. You have experience with publishing your work in disciplinary economics journals or top journals in other fields.

• a PhD in urban or regional economics, economic geography or related field;
• affinity with and experience in health economics and/or behavioural economics;
• a track record of publications (in economics and/or other fields);
• some experience in lecturing, running tutorials and thesis supervision;
• a motivation in conducting scientific and societal impactful research;
• the ability to act as a team player who contributes to the wider interests of the group.

The tenure track position will consist of conducting scientific and societal research (40% of your time), education (40% of your time), and scientific and societal relevant management tasks (20% of your time). Therefore, we expect you to be passionate about conducting scientific research that can make essential theoretical advancements, and that will affect societal developments.

A challenging career trajectory called tenure track. From the position of Assistant Professor you can eventually grow into the position of Professor holding a Personal Chair. Of course training and coaching are provided and interdisciplinary (international) cooperation is stimulated. You will also be given the chance to build up your own research line.
We offer you a temporary contract for seven years (0.8 – 1.0 fte), which can lead to a permanent employment contract.
Gross year salary ranging from €48,000 up to €65,000 (Scale 11 CAO Dutch Universities), based on a full-time employment and dependent on expertise and experience. This includes 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.

Because of the high residential density, cities are great places to foster change. Change in terms of sustainable consumption, healthy lifestyles and societal participation. All urgent issues, that directly relate to the UN development goals to reach a sustainable future.
To use the potential of cities and their inhabitants to foster change, the Urban Economics group (UEC) at Wageningen University focuses both on micro and macro processes. At the micro level, the research of the UEC group concentrates on economic behaviour, institutions, and the incentives that can contribute to more sustainable urban consumption and healthy lifestyles. By applying a behavioural economics approach, behaviour with respect to judgment, choice and social decision making is studied, taking into account subjective factors, spatial and social context and (expected) consequences of behaviour.
At a more macro level, UEC focuses on the impacts of urbanization on actors and activities in the urban-rural interface. Important issues in this respect are the economic analysis of the changed relation between food production and consumption as well as the potential for energy and circularity transitions in cities and their hinterland. We use spatial econometric and regional input-output modelling approaches to better understand optimal interactions between cities and rural areas, for example in the context of regional food supply systems, climate change mitigation, nature conservation and recreation activities.
UEC is a new group in Wageningen, with strong ambitions to emphasize the potential of cities and their interactions with rural areas to build a more sustainable future. Our group is positioned in a unique way to translate insights from the food, agri, energy and environmental domains to the urban context.
