Within the Human Resources organization, the role of a team member in the Communities of Expertise (CoEs) is to enable the delivery of the People Vision through closely collaborating and working with the HR Business Partners and People Services. The purpose of the CoE role is to design and improve people processes in the areas of Performance and Rewards, Talent and Learning, and People Analytics. In essence, responsible for ensuring ING has access to the best new and existing HR tools, processes and initiatives.

Job Overview

An opportunity has arisen in our Market Leaders Performance & Reward CoE team (five team members) who are based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The team focuses on four different business line areas – Challengers and Growth Markets, Market Leaders (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg), Wholesale Banking and our Corporate Staff Departments. In this role, you will create, implement and communicate Performance and Reward guidelines, deliver the annual compensation cycle, undertake compensation benchmarking, job grading and be a change agent for the design of new benefits plans.

The role hierarchically reports to the Head of Reward and Pensions NL.

Key Responsibilities

You bring deep expertise in performance and rewards to the HR function and drive change through the organization, as you will create and implement new people solutions (e.g. HR policies, processes and products) that meet business needs and enable the business to realize its strategy. You will strive for sustainable & consistent solutions which aim for standardization across geographies, businesses and functions.

You will ensure that HR and the business have access to best-in-class Performance and Reward processes, tools and initiatives. Key activities include, amongst others:

  • conduct market research and monitor trends within own area of expertise
  • deliver on the change agenda of the reward team
  • drive a consistent performance of our yearly salary cycle
  • design and implement new benefits which are aligned with the global strategy
  • ensure implementation of global solutions in own area of expertise
  • be an expert on compensation matters and collaborate with our HR Business Partners
  • provide expert advice and guidance to the organization in own area of expertise
  • inform and educate HR Business Partners and People Services on solutions


  • Recognized expertise in Performance & Reward areas (e.g.: compensation structures, benchmarking, job grading) for at least 3 years
  • Strong affinity with numbers and data and a good understanding on how data analysis and reporting support building better people solutions
  • Project and/or program management skills that drive sustainable impact
  • Strong relationship skills; ability to build connections with stakeholders from different cultural backgrounds, geographies and at varying levels of seniority
  • Practical experience of building strong relationships with third party vendors in area of expertise
  • Excellent written and orally communication skills (business English and Dutch) in order to bring a compelling story and engage stakeholders on new or existing people solutions
  • Highly organized and able to manage tight deadlines
  • You are proficient in Microsoft (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
