OverviewAssists and advises the Front Office, the Political–Economic Counselor, Economic Chief, and economic officers on policy advocacy in line with Mission goals across a wide range of economic issues, including entrepreneurship, innovation, climate, and emerging technologies such as semiconductors, quantum, AI, and telecommunications. Operating independently as one of three local staff members supporting the Pol/Econ Section and the sole local staff member in the Economic Unit, the incumbent tracks all Dutch economic issues, drafts reports, provides expert research, reporting, and advice of broad scope and complexity on Dutch macroeconomic trends, domestic, regional, and international policy, investment screening, sanctions, economic security, supply‑chain competition, and other environmental, science and health issues.
Key Responsibilities- Assist and advise mission policy advocacy on a wide range of economic issues.
- Track Dutch economic trends and issues.
- Draft reports and provide expert research, analysis, and advice.
- Develop and maintain contacts with stakeholders at mid‑to‑senior levels, up to CEO/Minister tier.
- Grade FSN‑9: At least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in program management, research and analysis, planning and strategy related to government, business, ICT, public policy, law, with proven skill in written analysis and advocacy on economic, business, and policy issues.
- Grade FSN‑10: At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the same field.
- A university degree in a relevant major such as history, business/economics, science, government, or journalism (or local equivalent) is required.
- Level IV (fluent) English (reading, speaking, writing).
- Level IV (fluent) Dutch (reading, speaking, writing).
- Analytical and objective approach to assignments; ability to separate important developments from less important matters.
- Ability to develop and maintain a reliable set of key contacts across all sectors of the economy.
- Demonstrates initiative within established supervisory parameters.
- Advanced computer skills, including familiarity with social media and AI‑assisted research technology.
- Must pass security certification.
- May be required to obtain a Certificate of Conduct for Natural Persons (VOG) from the Ministry of Safety and Justice of the Netherlands.
- FSN‑9: €56,284 annual base salary. 20.2 % allowances and premiums, 8.2 % vacation bonus, 3.67 % duty‑free days bonus, 8.33 % year‑end bonus. Total €67,653 per annum.
- FSN‑10: €67,158 base salary. Similar allowances and bonuses. Total €80,723 per annum.
