The role

As a Medior back-end developer, you will play an essential role in building and maintaining efficient, reusable, and reliable Ruby code within a team of developers.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, scalable and reliable Ruby code.
• Write clean code to develop functional web applications.
• Troubleshoot and debug applications.
• Perform UI tests to optimize performance.
• Manage cutting-edge technologies to improve legacy applications.
• Identify bottlenecks, bugs and devise solutions to these problems.
• Help maintain code quality, organization, and automation, i.e. Automated testing.
• Follow emerging technologies.
• Participate in the entire application lifecycle, focusing on coding and debugging.
• Architecting and integrating user-facing elements developed by front-end developers using Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL or MySQL;
• Collaborate with Front-end developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
• Define concepts, models, and representations which are needed for the implementation.
• Maintain code and write automated tests to ensure the product is of the highest quality.
• Liaise with developers, designers, and system administrators to identify new features.
• Gather and address technical and design requirements.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest tools, trends, and technologies.

Core competencies

• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming.
• Proficient understanding of code versioning tools.
• Ability to implement automated testing platforms and unit tests.
• Ability to create database schemas that represent and support business processes.
• Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application.
• Basic understanding of front-end technologies and platforms.
• Stickler for high-quality code and clean architecture.
• Excellent analytical and time management skills.
• Comfortable working in an Agile way, and to self-manage tasks and workflow.

Personal competencies/Nice to have

• Familiarity with concepts of MVC, Mocking, ORM and Restful.
• Familiarity with continuous integration

Required education & experience

• BSc degree in Computer Science or relevant field.
• Minimum of 5 years working experience ideally with digital agencies or tech start-ups.
• Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails and relevant databases (MySQL / PostgreSQL).
• In-depth understanding of the entire web development process (design, development, and deployment).
