Over de functie
Join us as an AI Software Engineer in the AI Center of Excellence (AI CoE) and help build the shared services and foundations for LLM and agent-based solutions at PostNL. You develop reusable components and technical capabilities that help teams build AI solutions faster and more consistently. Working with AWS, TypeScript, and Python, you create practical solutions that can be used across the organisation.
Verantwoordelijkheden
Visible Work: You build reusable components that form the foundation for AI applications and agent-based solutions at PostNL. Your work helps other teams move faster and build on shared solutions.
Challenge: You work on a broad range of AI-related projects across the organisation and contribute to shared building blocks that support AI development at scale. You work with technologies such as AWS, TypeScript, and Python. Because this is a fast-moving area, there is not always a fixed blueprint, so you need to be comfortable with uncertainty and creative in how you solve problems.
Great Atmosphere: You join a team with an open culture, flat hierarchies, and colleagues who are helpful and honest with each other. Ideas are valued, regardless of role or title.
Freedom: You combine working from home with one to two days per week at our office in the historic Stationspostgebouw (next to Hollands Spoor station). You will also have a say in your work and how we work as a team.
Growth: You have plenty of opportunities to keep developing through training, participation in tech communities, and by taking on different roles or projects within PostNL.
Wat ga je doen
In this role, you build shared services and reusable components for LLM and agent-based solutions at PostNL. Rather than working on one central platform, you develop technical capabilities that can be used across many different use cases and teams. Your work may include services such as knowledge bases, web search, agent orchestration templates, evaluation runbooks, and components such as an AI gateway. You work mainly with AWS, Python, and TypeScript, with a strong focus on hands-on implementation. Experience with Azure is a plus.
You work closely with colleagues in the AI CoE, including AI Engineers, Data Scientists, and Product Owners, as well as with teams in different parts of PostNL. Together, you translate new ideas and business needs into practical shared solutions. Depending on the situation, that may mean developing and testing new AI-enabling capabilities with use-case teams, improving shared components, advising on best practices, or supporting teams in adopting the standards and tools developed by the AI CoE.
Wat vragen wij
You enjoy building practical, reusable solutions that help other teams move faster. You can turn technical and architectural ideas into clear, maintainable components that fit within a broader landscape of shared services. You also work closely with teams across PostNL to advise on solution design, share best practices, and support the adoption of the standards and tools developed by the AI CoE. You work comfortably with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders and communicate clearly about trade-offs and design choices. You care about code quality, reliability, and long-term maintainability, and you stay up to date with developments in LLMs and agent systems to apply new ideas where they add real value. You combine technical depth with a pragmatic, solution-oriented way of working.
You also have the following qualities:
- You hold a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
- You have experience building AI or backend solutions with Python and TypeScript, including designing reusable services for multiple teams.
- You have experience with API design, developer experience, system design, and observability.
- You have hands-on experience with large language models, embeddings, vector search, and vector databases, including testing and evaluation strategies for LLM-based systems.
- You have experience with AWS services such as Lambda, Step Functions, and SDK clients and are fluent in infrastructure as code, for example AWS CDK.
