We're recruiting a Machinist to join a leading rolling-mill manufacturer in Shropshire. Ideally, we're looking for experienced Roll Grinders; however, thanks to the training provided, we also welcome applications from experienced Machinists with a processing background. This Machinist role is ideal for anyone with experience as a Machinist, Machine Operator, CNC Setter, Surface Grinder, or Cylindrical Grinder. No prior Roll Grinding experience? No problem — full training is provided to develop you into a skilled Machinist through our structured programme.
As a Machinist, you'll operate grinding and machining equipment, support the production team, and carry out precision measurement and inspection tasks using micrometers, verniers, and dial indicators. You'll start on days for an initial 6-month training period before transitioning to our four-shift rotation of 2 days, 2 nights, and 4 days off.
Working Hours:
* Initial training period: Days, Monday–Friday, for approximately 6 months
* Following training: four-shift rotation — 2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off
Key Responsibilities:
* Operate grinding and machining equipment to precise tolerances
* Check dimensions and surface finish using micrometers, verniers, dial indicators
* Log data via digital HMIs
* Support production output, quality, and safety standards
* Identify defects and support continuous improvement
Training Provided:
Structured, multi-stage programme covering grinding fundamentals, roll geometry, wheel selection and safety, defect recognition, coolant control, and process optimisation.
