Smart stock allocation plays a crucial role in making the best use of our logistical capacity and creating flexibility within our network. This means making data-driven decisions about where to place millions of products across different warehouses.
As a Software Engineer in the Stock Allocation team, you will design, build and run scalable solutions that drive this decision-making process. Together with your multi-disciplinary product team (business, software engineering and data science), you will solve this complex logistical puzzle. Your work will help us place stock in the right warehouses, making our operations more efficient and keeping our customers satisfied.
What you will do as Senior Python Software EngineerYour focus will be building reliable and scalable software that turns business logic and Data Science models into production-ready solutions. Given the cross-functional setup of the team, you will work with both Python and Kotlin. Python is key for building scalable data pipeline and running allocation calculations. Kotlin is essential for exposing the results to other systems and stakeholders like retailers and sellers. Some stock allocations require last-minute manual adjustments. For this, we maintain an internal streamlit dashboard that allows us to intervene when needed. You will work in a fast-changing environment where priorities can shift quickly. Being flexible, communicating clearly and having a hands‑on approach are essential qualities for this role.
What we are looking forWe are on the outlook for a Software Engineer who combines strong coding skills with a good understanding of scalable system design. You know how to turn prototypes or business needs into reliable and maintainable software. Python plays an important role in our team, especially when translating Data Science models into production systems. Experience with Kotlin or Java is very welcome, but if you are not familiar with these languages yet, we expect you to be eager and willing to learn quickly.
A background in logistics/ operational research is helpful, but not essential. What really matters is your curiosity for the domain and your ability to work closely with colleagues from different disciplines. Because our work directly affects daily operations and financial performance, you need to stay focused when priorities shift or when quick decisions are needed. You enjoy working in short cycles, improving both the product and the way we work as a team. Working on network optimization requires someone who enjoys connecting the dots, keeps the bigger picture in mind, and knows how to focus on the issues that matter most.
Overview of required hard skillsThe Stock Allocation team is responsible for deciding how we distribute stock across multiple warehouses, balancing factors like supplier flexibility, warehouse capacity, costs and delivery speed. The team consists of three Software Engineers, three Data Scientists and several Logistic Process Engineers. We work closely with stakeholders from buying, delivery and logistics operations to maximize our impact. The Stock Allocation team is part of the Capacity Steering product group, which plays a central role in the logistics domain at bol. Outside of work, we enjoy spending time together as team, whether it’s at company drinks, cycling outings, or game nights.
