As our Compliance & Data Protection Officer, you are at the heart of building, strengthening and scaling BauWatch’s compliance & data protection programs. Working closely with the Group Compliance Officer and Group Data Protection Officer you are part of the Legal & Compliance team and report into the Chief Legal Officer. You bring the compliance & data protection programs to life in our markets and operations by traveling to your stakeholders and by working together with colleagues from other departments.
You’re based at the BauWatch head office in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands (2 to 3 days/week presence as baseline).
Areas and marketsCompliance covers different domains within BauWatch, including Anti‑Bribery & Corruption, Sanctions, Competition, Conflicts of Interest, and Speak Up. You will work on these topics Group‑wide, in all BauWatch countries. For Data Protection activities you mainly initially focus on The Netherlands and Belgium with further expansion in the next phase.
Key stakeholdersBesides the Group Compliance Officer and the Data Protection Officer, you will work with the Group Legal Counsels, HR, Marketing, Communications, Finance, Procurement, Sustainability, and management and sales of the local BauWatch country organizations.
Key tasks and responsibilities- Help BauWatch grow – the right way: Support the Group Compliance Officer & Group Data Protection Officer in further maturing our global compliance & data protection frameworks
- Dive into the countries & operations: Conduct compliance risk assessments in all BauWatch countries and operations, and define and implement risk mitigation measures; Contribute to the GDPR ambassador team with representatives from each BauWatch country
- Manage third party risk: Support the further development and implementation of a risk‑based third party due diligence program
- Put paper into practice: Develop, implement and improve compliance and data protection policies & procedures; Train business and group functions on compliance policies & data protection through (in‑person) training sessions and workshops in all BauWatch countries; Increase employee awareness through communication‑ and awareness campaigns on compliance & data protection
- Work smarter: Develop, implement, and maintain (AI) tooling to support the compliance & data protection processes and increase efficiency
- Support sales: Support sales teams in key countries with compliance & data protection questions, checking Data Processing Agreements and completing tender documentation & customer questionnaires
- Manage the ROPA: Continuously update the Record of Processing Activities by including new business activities and related processing of personal data
- Measure success: Monitor and measure the implementation of the compliance & data protection programs, and report to management and shareholder
- Minimum a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area with at least 3-5 years of professional experience
- Hands‑on mentality, embracing change
- Risk‑based thinking, resulting in practical advice
- An interest in (security) technology and experience in development or implementation of (AI) compliance & data protection tooling
- Compliance & Data Privacy certifications are a plus
- English is a must, Dutch and German (and other European languages) are a plus
- Available for 32-40 hours
- Ability to travel through Europe around 10-20% of your time
