This is what you can expect as a geotechnical expert in offshore engineering
As a geotechnical expert in the offshore energy field, you address relevant geotechnical challenges to help accelerating the energy transition in the Netherlands and abroad. Building on your technical expertise, reputation and network in the offshore energy sector, you are able to set research agendas, provide expert technical advice, bring people together and establish collaborations. We have everything you need for you to make impact
What makes this role fun is that you are surrounded by a motivated group of hydraulic/geotechnical engineers across different discipline teams in Deltares, working on the energy transition. In addition, a range of the latest techniques/tools and experimental facilities (such as the Water-Soil Flume and the Geocentrifuge) are at your disposal to test and validate designs and measures. In short, you have all the strings in your hands to help the knowledge in this field further.
These are your most important activities:
- Establish, execute and lead applied research and consultancy projects in the offshore field.
- Maintaining and further expanding your network and proactively seeking contact with our clients and cooperation partners in the offshore field.
- You will be a point of contact and work closely together in multidisciplinary teams within and outside Deltares.
- Disseminating your knowledge and/or research results internally, in peer-reviewed publications and at conferences as part of your projects.
As a senior advisor, you do not only excel in advancing and applying knowledge for cost-effective, safe, and silent offshore infrastructure installation, but you also envision becoming a driving force in shaping the future of this field. Requirements
What do you bring?
- An MSc or PhD in the field of civil engineering, majoring in geotechnical engineering or offshore engineering, supplemented by at least 10 years of relevant work experience in the offshore field.
- Strong technical background to supervise day-to-day engineering work, provide expert technical advice, develop new projects and review complex geotechnical reports.
- By sharing knowledge, you create a connection with our partners and clients. To this end, we ask for a collaborative approach and good communication skills in English. Dutch proficiency is not a requirement but an asset.
- Interest in being at the forefront of developing new knowledge and applying existing knowledge for cost-effective, safe, and silent installation of offshore infrastructure.
- Solid expertise in physical and/or numerical modelling will be an advantage.

- a one-year contract with the intention of permanent employment. Grading takes place based on your experience with a maximum of €8,012 gross per month based on 40 hours per week. We are also open to applicants on senior expert level. Depending on your work experience, we will then consult with you to determine an appropriate salary scale with a max of € 8.940,- gross per month based on 40 hours per week.
- 34 vacation days based on 40 hours, ABP pension, a vitality budget, a mobility budget and a contribution to healthcare costs.

This vacancy is based in Delft. We therefore ask candidates to live in the Netherlands or be willing to relocate here. It is not possible to carry out this role remotely.
