Education & Student Affairs (ESA) is responsible for supporting all bachelor, master and doctoral education at TU Delft. From admission and registration, study programme administration and educational logistics, to student counselling, teacher support and sport & culture programmes and facilities.

ESA consists of the departments Education Service Centre, Academic Services, Extension School and Sports & Culture. ESA employs around 250 staff and is known within the TU Delft for the high-quality service it provides and has a pro-active and solution-oriented culture.

The TU Delft Teaching Academy unites everybody involved in education and educational developments within TU Delft. With the Teaching Academy we connect educational developments, accelerate educational initiatives and strengthen collaborations with lecturers and others. The Teaching Academy has a physical location, the house for lecturers: the Teaching Lab. In the Teaching Lab it is all about education. We host events and sessions for lecturers (workshops, education days, monthly lunch lectures etc.), we create cross-faculty lecturers networks (Communities of Practice a.o) and we collaborate with partner universities.

We connect lecturers to the right support teams, whether they have a didactical, technical or organisational question. The Teaching Academy facilitation team consists of 5 enthousiastic colleagues and a team leader. Together with the Academic Director of the Teaching Academy, we are responsible for realising the programme the Teaching Academy offers, as well as enabling the realisation of the set ambitions.

Functie omschrijving

TU Delft has a strong track record in innovation in education worldwide and has the ambition to maintain this status. The Teaching Academy aims to accelerate and support this ambition.

In your role as Project Lead Teaching Initiatives you will be responsible for initiating and maintaining Teaching Academy activities and stimulate community building, innovation and educational developments. Your tasks will be very broad: from leading educational projects to facilitating & organising workshops, events and community building activities.

  • You help colleagues realizing their educational ambition aligned to the broader TU Delft strategy and in line with other initiatives.

  • You spot external innovations which could benefit TU Delft’s education ambitions and will bring these to the Teaching Lab.

  • You spot & develop initiatives with education staff based on internal and external educational developments, e.g. gamification, challenge based education, multidisciplinairy education, VR in Education, online education, blended education.

  • You coordinate or participate in current and new educational projects.

  • You are the linking pin for lecturers to education support organisations for educational development & innovations.

  • You translate ideas into projects.

  • You are responsible for facilitating events in line with the needs of a broader group of lecturers and in line with the TU Delft vision on Education.

  • You are responsible for organising and programming events like the Education Day, Hackathons, an exchange week etc.

  • You build an active network with colleagues in and outside the organisation and advise and stimulate academic staff in their ambition to work on educational developments & innovations.

  • You navigate easily between high-over educational developments and execution in practical activities.

  • You facilitate workshops and collaborations between educational stakeholders.

  • You facilitate Communities of Practice.

  • You execute tasks at all levels; from changing the Teaching Lab setting to acting as a host at the front desk, creating an open and welcoming atmosphere and helping translate strategic plans into operational plans.

Functie eisen

An academic level of working and thinking and at least 3-5 years of relevant working experience:

  • Vision on and experience with higher education developments and innovation in an engineering and science environment.

  • Didactical skills and work experience with coordinating and participating as a project lead in innovative educational projects.

  • Experience with facilitating educational workshops and programming educational events.

  • Experience with supporting, advising and stimulating staff members and educational management regarding innovation and educational developments.

  • Relevant network of education (innovation) stakeholders or be able to form such a network quickly.

The Following Competences Are Necessary

  • You are an excellent team player and you have the ability to work on complex projects with multiple stakeholders, but you can also work independently.

  • You have an affinity with complex organisations.

  • You have strong communication skills in both English and Dutch.

  • You are creative, flexible, persuasive, result driven and cost-conscious.

  • You have a can-do attitude.


You start in an enthusiastic, driven and sociable team.

It are 2 positions with a size of 30-40 hours (0.8 - 1.0FTE). It is a temporary employment contract for a period of 1 year with extension possibilities. The salary is based on scale 10 from the collective agreement for Dutch Universities with a minimum of €2709 and a maximum of € 4274 gross per month for a full-time appointment. You will be classified on the basis of knowledge and experience. You will accrue pension via the ABP pension fund.

Besides of course the holiday allowance in May, you will receive an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% in December. You can also compile a part of your terms of employment package yourself with the help of the Individual Terms and Conditions package, including buying and selling leave hours.

A good balance between work and private life is important. That is why you can make agreements about flexible working hours, you have many vacation days and parental leave is partially paid.
