Financial Controller

Overview

Step into the dynamic world of e-commerce and become the financial backbone for seven entities. As our Financial Controller, you will be responsible for accurate accounting and help shape the future of our finance department. If you are energized by optimizing processes and leveraging AI and new technologies, this role is for you.

Your job

As a Financial Controller, you are the backbone of our financial operations and will work closely with AR/AP specialists and the finance administrator. You own the following domains with accuracy and strategic insight:

• Complete management: You are the owner of the full financial administration from A to Z for 7 legal entities (NL x3, DK, US, ES, DE).
• Closings and reporting: You independently handle the month, quarter, and year-end closings and ensure timely and accurate reporting that informs crucial business decisions.
• Fiscal responsibility: Preparing and filing various tax returns (VAT, Corporate Income Tax).
• Annual account: You prepare the files for the annual financial statements and are the primary point of contact for external accountants (abroad).
• Process innovation: You proactively identify opportunities for improvement in financial processes and systems and play a key role in the selection and implementation of new (AI-driven) tools to elevate the department.

Who are you?

You are a communicatively strong and well-organized professional with an open and positive mindset. You are analytic, proactive, and thrive in an environment where you can independently tackle complex challenges.

• You have a completed Bachelor’s (HBO) or Master’s (WO) degree in a financial field (e.g., Accountancy, Business Economics).
• A minimum of 3–5 years of relevant work experience in a similar role as a Financial Controller, GL Accountant, or Assistant Controller.
• Thorough knowledge of Dutch GAAP and demonstrable experience in independently preparing annual financial statements. IFRS is a plus.
• Demonstrable affinity with IT systems and curiosity for applying AI and automation in finance.
• Excellent command of English (spoken and written) and good understanding of Dutch.
• Plus: Experience with Exact Online and QuickBooks.

Some practical things we expect from you:

• You are available for at least 4 days a week (32 hours).
• You are willing to come to our Utrecht office for two days per week.
• You have a valid work permit for the Netherlands or EU citizenship.

• The base salary is gross between €3,800 and €5,000 per month based on a 40-hour week. Salary determined by experience.
