The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:
Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Layer Farm Manager to join a progressive free-range egg production enterprise based in London. Working closely with the Farm Manager, you will support the day-to-day management of laying hen flocks, ensuring the highest standards of bird welfare, egg quality, production efficiency and biosecurity.
This is a hands-on role offering a varied workload across flock management, egg production, staff supervision, customer engagement and wider farm operations. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining a productive and welfare-focused laying enterprise.
Responsibilities:
• Daily management of laying hen flocks
• Monitoring bird health, welfare and egg production performance
• Egg collection, grading, sorting and quality control
• Routine salmonella testing and record keeping
• Feeding, bedding and housing management
• Assisting with the movement and management of mobile laying units
• Farm vending machine stock management
• Delivering eggs and farm produce to local customers
• Production reporting and flock performance monitoring
• Supervising, training and supporting part-time staff
• Farm maintenance and general husbandry duties
• Supporting social media and customer engagement activities
• Maintaining high standards of biosecurity, welfare and health & safety compliance
Requirements:
• Previous experience working with laying hens or egg production systems
• Strong understanding of bird welfare and flock management
• Experience supervising or leading staff
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Ability to work independently and use initiative
• Full UK driving licence
• Tractor and telehandler experience advantageous
• Interest in sustainable, regenerative and free-range farming systems
• Positive attitude and strong attention to detail
