How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

Job Title: SEN Tutor
Location: Home-Based Tuition, Maldon, Essex (CM9)
Hours: 6 Hours Per Week, 2 Hours Per Day, 3 Days Per Week
Start Date: 1 September 2026
Subjects: Maths, English and Science (KS2/KS3)
About the Role
Study Mind is seeking an experienced SEN Tutor to provide 1:1 face-to-face tuition for a 12-year-old Year 8 student with an EHCP who is currently awaiting a specialist placement.
This is interim bridging provision for the Autumn Term 2026 only. A specialist ASD and EBSA placement has already been confirmed for January 2027, so the purpose of the role is to close gaps in learning, rebuild confidence and support a smooth transition into his new setting.
About the Student
Our student is bright, funny and imaginative, with an excellent memory for topics that interest him. He achieved expected standard in Maths and Writing and greater depth in Reading at KS2, and is described as academically able and quick to access learning when he feels safe and regulated. He loves animals, dinosaurs, art and drawing, and enjoys football, rugby and basketball. He hopes to study zoology and one day open a zoo.
He has diagnoses of autism, ADHD and dyspraxia, alongside severe anxiety including severe separation anxiety. Interrupted attendance means he is currently working slightly below age-related expectations. When dysregulated he can become angry quickly and needs extended low-demand recovery time, and he is typically remorseful afterwards.
The Role Will Include
Delivering 6 hours of 1:1 home tuition each week across three sessions.
Teaching Maths, English and Science at a level established through gentle initial assessment.
Closing gaps in KS2 and KS3 knowledge following a period of interrupted attendance.
Rebuilding confidence in learning through small, achievable steps.
Using interest-led entry points, particularly animals, to make learning feel purposeful.
Liaising with the family, the professionals involved and the receiving specialist school ahead of his January transition.
Ideal SEN Tutor Experience
We're looking for someone with experience supporting:
Learners with autism, ADHD and dyspraxia.
Young people with severe anxiety, separation anxiety and EBSA.
Emotional dysregulation, including recognising early signs and de-escalating calmly.
Core subject teaching at KS2 and KS3.
Home tuition, alternative provision, EOTAS or specialist SEMH settings.
Students transitioning back into a school placement after time away.
Learning Approach
The successful SEN Tutor will:
Use a low-demand, relational approach with a soft, calm voice.
Keep session structure predictable, with clear start and finish points and pre-warning of any change.
Offer two options rather than open choices, as too much choice can be overwhelming.
Build in planned movement and regulation breaks.
Use retrieval practice, visual models and small steps rather than large tasks.
Recognise that he can become preoccupied with perceived mistakes, leading to frustration or self-sabotage, and respond restoratively rather than punitively.
Understand that he is very literal and may find abstract concepts and perspective-taking difficult.
Important Requirements
No tutor gender preference has been expressed by the family.
Consistency of tutor is important. He responds best to one familiar adult with a predictable routine.
His mother is aware of the placement and may be present during sessions.
He has significant sensory needs, including sensitivity to certain sounds, light touch and clothing textures, alongside sensory-seeking through movement and chewing. He has fine motor difficulties which affect handwriting endurance. There are cats and guinea pigs in the home.
This placement carries a number of documented risks, including emotional dysregulation with physical aggression, and expressions of self-harm or suicidal ideation when highly distressed. A full briefing and risk assessment will be provided, and the successful applicant must be confident following safeguarding procedures promptly.
Student Interests
Animals and dinosaurs, art and drawing, and role play. He enjoys maths, plays and follows football, rugby and basketball, supports Arsenal, and engages particularly well with outdoor and nature-based activity.
Tuition Details
Location: Home-based tuition in Maldon, Essex (CM9). Sessions take place at the kitchen table. Home is the appropriate setting given his separation anxiety and sensory needs.
Hours: 6 hours per week, delivered as 2-hour sessions across 3 days.
Preferred Times: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 10:30am to 12:30pm where possible. Mondays are unavailable, and afternoons on Tuesday and Wednesday should be avoided.
If you're an experienced SEN Tutor who can combine solid core-subject teaching with patience, consistency and a calm, low-demand approach, we'd love to hear from you
