Quantity Surveyor — Solihull
Higgins McGrath are hiring a Quantity Surveyor to join a growing Midlands team, working on mechanical and electrical building services projects — including a major works set to bring 2,150 jobs and £140 million a year in economic value to the region.
Most Quantity Surveyor roles hand you a project once it's already underway. This one doesn't. You'll manage costs from early design right through to Practical Completion and beyond — the full picture, not just your slice of it. And you'll report directly to the Commercial Manager and Managing Director, not three layers removed from either.
As Quantity Surveyor, you'll:
* Control costs and secure the successful financial delivery of mechanical and electrical projects
* Progress monthly valuations and manage variations and changes as they arise
* Build and maintain relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and site staff
* Maintain financial control including job costing reviews and final accounts
* Review and approve contracts ahead of signing, flagging issues and assumptions early
* Develop processes and controls that genuinely improve how the team works
This Quantity Surveyor role suits someone who wants ownership of the full project lifecycle, not just a piece of it.
What you'll need for this Quantity Surveyor role:
* Third-level qualification in Quantity Surveying
* Working toward or qualified with RICS, CIOB or ICES
* 3+ years post-qualification experience in a surveying role, ideally in building construction
* Experience with JCT form of contract administration, from both client and sub-contractor perspective
* Strong IT literacy, including cost value reporting procedures
5 years' post-qualification experience is a bonus, not a requirement — if you meet the rest, don't rule yourself out.
