How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

Help shape safer care and drive continuous improvement across a national care portfolio.

Introduction

This is an exciting national opportunity to join a forward-thinking organisation committed to continually improving the quality and safety of care. Supported by long-term investment and a strong focus on clinical governance, you'll play a key role in strengthening safeguarding, resident safety and learning across homes throughout England, Scotland and Wales.

This is a national role requiring regular travel across homes in England, Scotland and Wales.

Working as part of the Quality and Governance Directorate, you'll provide specialist leadership on safeguarding, medicines safety, resident safety, inquests and governance, helping homes translate learning into meaningful improvements that enhance outcomes for residents.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement, you'll provide expert advice and oversight across safeguarding, resident safety and clinical governance, supporting operational leaders to manage complex issues, identify emerging risks and embed sustainable improvements.

You'll coordinate responses to safeguarding concerns, serious resident safety events, medicines incidents and Coroner activity, ensuring robust governance, effective learning and timely action. Working closely with operational, clinical and governance colleagues, you'll analyse trends, provide assurance to senior leaders and help strengthen systems that improve safety and quality across the organisation.

The role also plays an important part in supporting homes with Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and wider consent and liberty-related practice, helping ensure decisions remain lawful, person-centred and evidence based.

About you

You're an experienced registered nurse with a strong background in safeguarding, clinical governance, resident safety or quality within adult social care or another regulated healthcare environment.

Comfortable managing complex and sensitive situations, you're able to balance sound professional judgement with a supportive, improvement-focused approach. You build credibility quickly, communicate confidently with a wide range of stakeholders and use evidence, data and learning to influence better practice.

Most importantly, you're passionate about protecting vulnerable people and helping organisations continually improve the quality and safety of care they provide.

What you'll bring

Essential

Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.

Significant experience in safeguarding, resident safety, clinical governance, quality or compliance within adult social care or a regulated healthcare environment.

Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, medicines safety, clinical governance and regulatory requirements across care services.

Understanding of Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (or equivalent legislation), duty of candour and learning from serious incidents.

Experience supporting safeguarding investigations, serious incidents, medicines safety events, complaints, inquests or regulatory enquiries.

Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify themes and drive organisational learning.

Strong report writing, communication and stakeholder management skills.

Ability to influence operational teams, manage sensitive issues and coordinate multiple priorities effectively.

Experience working collaboratively with regulators, safeguarding partners, commissioners or other external agencies.

Desirable

Safeguarding Level 4 training.

Formal training or qualifications in resident safety, quality improvement, medicines safety or incident investigation.

Experience using electronic incident reporting, eMAR or electronic care planning systems.

Knowledge of resident safety methodologies, human factors or improvement science.

Experience working across multiple regions or services within a large care organisation.

Additional information

Flexibility is required to support services where additional governance or quality improvement input is needed.

An Enhanced DBS check will be required for the successful candidate
