We are seeking a proactive Transport Planner to join our busy Bawtry operational hub to manage the daily route scheduling and dispatch for our heavy commercial fleet. Sitting at the intersection of order fulfillment, fleet management, and customer service, this is a fast-paced role focused on delivering aggregates, asphalt, concrete, and packaged building products safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Hours & Shift Pattern
* Standard Shift: Day Shift (Typically 08:00 to 17:00 daily)
* Working Week: Monday to Friday (5 days working, 2 days off with weekends off)

Key Responsibilities
* Route Planning: Daily routing and scheduling across our heavy commercial fleet (including 8-wheel rigid tippers, 44t artics, ready-mix concrete mixers, powder tankers, and crane trucks).
* Payload & Fleet Optimisation: Maximize vehicle utilization, minimize empty miles, and ensure correct vehicle allocation based on site access constraints and material discharge needs.
* Driver & Haulier Allocation: Coordinate daily activities and start times for internal drivers and sub-contracted hauliers to maintain smooth operational execution.
* Real-Time Tracking & Live Support: Monitor live deliveries using transport management systems (TMS), react swiftly to operational disruptions (e.g., traffic delays, plant downtime), and keep customers updated.
* Compliance Management: Ensure all scheduled routes comply with UK Drivers’ Hours rules, Working Time Directives, gross vehicle weight limits, and FORS/site safety standards.
* Stakeholder Communication: Maintain clear, daily communication with quarry managers, plant superintendents, weighbridge operators, and regional sales teams.
* Problem Solving: Proactively resolve site access challenges, route deviations, and delivery window changes in a dynamic, high-volume environment.

Experience & Skills Required
* Transport Office Background: Minimum 2+ years of proven experience working as a planner, traffic controller, or logistics coordinator in a fast-paced transport environment is essential.
* Sector & Fleet Knowledge: Prior experience or familiarity with heavy haulage, aggregate tippers, concrete mixers, bulk powders, or building materials is highly preferred.
* Compliance Literacy: Solid working knowledge of UK HGV compliance, driver regulations, tachograph rules, and vehicle weight capacities.
* Geographical Awareness: Strong local and national UK geographical knowledge to safely and efficiently plan routes for heavy vehicle assets.
* Systems & IT Proficiency: Hands-on experience working with Transport Management Systems (TMS), dispatch software, or ERP platforms (e.g., SAP), alongside Microsoft Office.
* Communication & Resilience: Excellent communication skills with the confidence to direct drivers, manage haulier relationships, and resolve customer issues calmly under pressure
