How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

The Enabling Independence Team (EIT) is a dynamic, county-wide service supporting adults with mental health and/or substance misuse needs to regain control of their lives. We deliver short-term, strengths-based support that empowers people to live independently, connect with their communities, and build lasting resilience.

About The Role

As an Enabling Independence Support Worker, you'll deliver short term strengths-based interventions that promote recovery, independence, and social inclusion. Working closely with individuals, carers, and professionals, you'll support people to build life skills, confidence, and community connections. You will provide tailored, person-centred support to help individuals achieve their goals, promoting independence through practical interventions and enablement strategies.

An average day for an EIT support worker will consist of attending home visits to meet service users in their home and support them to achieve the goals they have identified. This could include supporting people with public transport, shopping, accessing community-based activities, budget management to name a few. The role will require driving within the area that you cover to attend visits. Verbal and written communication with various agencies is a core part of what we do to support people to access the wider community, and this will be with statutory and voluntary sector services. Support workers are expected to write up daily notes for each person they visit using the relevant Surrey systems (training is provided). Support workers manage their diaries.

Your Application

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills:

Experience and understanding of working with people who have mental health and or substance misuse needs
An understanding of social care services and community services regarding mental health needs
Ability to demonstrate a basic understanding of a strengths-based approach
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.To apply, we request that you submit a CV, and you will be asked the following 3 questions:

Looking at our advert, and considering the Council's commitment to ensuring that "no one is left behind", please tell us what it is about the role that has motivated you to apply?

What three qualities do you have that would make you a good Enabling Independence Team worker and how do these qualities support Surrey County Council's culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and adaptability?Surrey has both urban and rural areas and candidates will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK, access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area. Reasonable adjustments where needed will be made for successful applicants who have a disability or long term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job.

An enhanced DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) and Adults' Barred List check will be required for this role.

The job advert closes at 23:59 on 18th October 2026 with interviews planned to follow.

Local Government Reorganisation

Surrey County Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation and will move to new authorities in April 2027. This role is currently employed by Surrey County Council and will remain so until then. If you are employed by Surrey County Council on 1 April 2027, your employment will transfer under TUPE arrangements to one of the new councils, with your current terms and conditions protected. The provisional allocation for this post is East Surrey Council, subject to final confirmation through the wider transition process later this year.

We are a disability confident employer which means if you have shared a disability on your application form and have evidenced you meet the minimum shortlisting criteria, as displayed on the advert, we guarantee you an interview.

Your skills and experience truly matter to us. From application to your first day, we're committed to supporting you with any adjustments you need, we value inclusion and warmly welcome you to join and help build a workplace where everyone belongs
