The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:
Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.
Our client, a well-established engineering organisation based in Darlington, is seeking an experienced and reliable Maintenance Operative to join their team on a part-time basis (24 hours per week) on a fixed-term contract until October 2027.
This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, hands-on individual with facilities maintenance experience to play a key role in maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient working environment.
The Role As Maintenance Operative, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the company's offices, facilities, and grounds. Working closely with the QHSE & Facilities function, you will ensure the premises are maintained to a high standard while supporting health, safety, and environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out general building maintenance and minor repair work.
Undertake basic plumbing, decorating, carpentry, and maintenance tasks.
Replace lighting, sensors, and other building fixtures as required.
Maintain the cleanliness, appearance, and safety of internal and external areas.
Ensure car parks, walkways, and grounds remain free from hazards.
Support winter maintenance activities, including snow and ice clearance.
Conduct routine safety inspections and checks, including emergency lighting, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, refuge points, and disabled toilet alarms.
Review contractor documentation, including Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with site safety requirements.
Assist with office moves and the relocation of furniture and equipment.
Support site recycling and environmental initiatives. The Person
Previous experience in facilities, building, or site maintenance.
Practical maintenance and repair skills across a range of disciplines.
Experience working within health and safety procedures.
Manual handling training.
Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
