A supportive specialist school in Trowbridge, Wiltshire is seeking a motivated and compassionate Criminology Graduate TA / Aspiring Criminal Justice Officer to join their team. The school supports children aged 5-16 who may have Autism, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, behavioural difficulties and other additional learning needs.
As a Criminology Graduate TA / Aspiring Criminal Justice Officer, you will support children on a 1:1 and small-group basis, helping them overcome barriers to learning, develop positive behaviours and build the emotional and social skills needed to succeed.
The Role
Working as a Criminology Graduate TA / Aspiring Criminal Justice Officer, you will:
Provide 1:1 and small-group support to children with Autism, SEMH and additional needs.
Build positive and trusting relationships with children, acting as a consistent and positive role model.
Support children to understand their behaviour and recognise the consequences of their actions.
Encourage positive decision-making and appropriate social interactions.
Help children develop emotional regulation, resilience and coping strategies.
Support behaviour management through consistent and individualised approaches.
Assist children in re-engaging with learning following periods of emotional or behavioural difficulty.
Help identify potential triggers and contribute observations to support plans.
Promote safeguarding and the wellbeing of vulnerable children.
Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, pastoral teams and other professionals.
Support a structured, safe and inclusive learning environment.The Criminology Graduate TA / Aspiring Criminal Justice Officer will play an important role in helping children develop positive behaviours and make constructive choices while gaining an insight into the importance of early intervention and preventative support.
About You
We are looking for a Criminology Graduate TA / Aspiring Criminal Justice Officer who is:
A graduate with a degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology or a related subject.
Interested in behaviour, safeguarding, rehabilitation and supporting vulnerable children.
Calm, patient and resilient when responding to challenging situations.
Confident building professional relationships with children and young people.
Able to establish clear and consistent boundaries.
Empathetic and willing to understand the reasons behind behaviour.
A strong communicator with good listening and relationship-building skills.
Proactive, reflective and keen to develop their professional experience.
