You will join a growing and operationally focused organisation based in the Hedge End area of Southampton. Working within a collaborative finance team, you will support colleagues across commercial, operational and project-delivery functions while helping the business strengthen its financial processes and reporting.
Your new role
This is a broad Assistant Management Accountant position with a significant focus on payroll coordination. You will compile and review weekly and monthly payroll information, liaise with an outsourced payroll provider and work with HR to process adjustments relating to overtime, incentives, mileage, deductions, starters, leavers and absence. You will also check returned payroll information, allocate payroll costs and ensure submissions are complete and accurate.
Alongside payroll, you will help prepare weekly KPI reports, monthly management accounts, variance analysis and balance-sheet reconciliations, including stock-related reconciliations. You will support the oversight of accounts payable and credit control activities, assist colleagues with finance queries and contribute to improving established processes and reporting. You will work with a range of stakeholders and help ensure that accurate financial information supports effective business decisions.
What you'll need to succeed
You will have previous experience in a varied finance role, with exposure to management accounts, journals, reconciliations, reporting and payroll information. You do not need to have processed payroll entirely independently, but you should be comfortable collating, checking and submitting detailed information to an external provider. Strong Excel skills are important, particularly as some processes currently involve established spreadsheets and manual workarounds. Experience of QuickBooks would be beneficial, although candidates familiar with comparable systems will also be considered.
You will ideally hold, or be studying towards an ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification. You should be highly organised, accurate and able to manage changing priorities, with the confidence to communicate across different departments and support other finance colleagues. A proactive approach, strong problem-solving skills and an interest in improving processes will help you succeed.
What you'll get in return
You will receive a competitive package and the opportunity to undertake a diverse and responsible finance role within a supportive team. Ideally, this is a part-time position (circa 24 hours per week), but full-time arrangements may be considered for the right candidate. Hybrid working is also available, subject to the agreed schedule and the operational requirements of the role.
