Premises Assistant – School-Based Opportunity A welcoming and well-established school in Edgware is seeking a reliable and proactive Premises Assistant to support the smooth day-to-day running of the school site.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with maintenance, caretaking, facilities or site support experience who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
Working closely with the wider school team, you will play a key role in ensuring the premises are well maintained, compliant with health and safety requirements, and fully operational throughout the year.
The Role As a Premises Assistant, you will support the upkeep, security and maintenance of the school site, helping to ensure the highest standards are maintained at all times.
Key Responsibilities
✅ Assist with opening and securing the school site.
✅ Carry out routine maintenance tasks and minor repairs.
✅ Conduct regular site inspections and report any maintenance issues.
✅ Support with health and safety checks and compliance procedures.
✅ Assist with fire safety checks, emergency lighting inspections and evacuation procedures.
✅ Set up halls, classrooms and communal spaces for assemblies, meetings and school events.
✅ Move furniture, equipment and deliveries around the school as required.
✅ Liaise with contractors and assist in monitoring works carried out on site.
✅ Monitor cleanliness across the school and support high site standards.
✅ Help maintain outdoor areas, ensuring they remain safe, clean and accessible.
✅ Assist with gritting, leaf clearance and general grounds maintenance when required.
About You The successful candidate will have:
Previous experience in a caretaking, premises, facilities or maintenance role.
Good practical DIY and repair skills.
An understanding of basic health and safety principles.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A flexible and proactive approach to work.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.Experience working within a school setting would be beneficial but is not essential.
