Aldenham Estate is a long-established, family-owned business. Having evolved from its agricultural roots, the Estate now spans residential and commercial property, London Elstree Aerodrome, Home Farm Glamping, farming, events, renewable energy and environmental initiatives, including biodiversity net gain.

As the portfolio keeps growing, we're looking for an experienced, hands-on Estate Facilities & Maintenance Manager. You'll join the Property team and help keep our properties, land and facilities safe, compliant, well maintained and running smoothly.

This is not a desk-based Facilities role.

You'll be out across the Estate spotting and resolving maintenance issues. You'll work alongside our in-house maintenance team, coordinate contractors and support tenants, making sure problems are dealt with properly before they become bigger ones.

Essential: A clean driving licence and your own vehicle. Substantial experience with property maintenance, risk assessments, compliance, H&S experience with certification of training. 

Possible background: Property lettings, building & construction, school/commercial facilities manager, H&S officer.

Keep the Estate Safe. Compliant. Maintained. Moving.

You'll sit within the Property team, taking ownership of the upkeep, safety and smooth running of the Estate's buildings and land. You'll also give practical support to the airfield, glamping and leisure operations.

It's a broad role that bridges two worlds. One is hands-on maintenance, working alongside our in-house maintenance team and getting stuck in yourself. The other is Health & Safety, compliance and record-keeping, making sure everything we do is done properly and documented.

You'll have the knowledge to judge what can be handled in-house and what genuinely needs a specialist, so we get the right work done at the right cost.

Some days will be planned. Others won't. You'll need to be comfortable responding to issues as they arise, shifting priorities and seeing things through.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading day-to-day property, facilities and general maintenance across the Estate
• Working alongside and supporting our in-house maintenance team and gardener, getting hands-on where needed
• Owning Health & Safety and compliance across the Estate, including fire risk assessments and Legionella management
• Identifying issues early and deciding whether they can be resolved in-house or need a contractor
• Sourcing, managing and monitoring external contractors, making sure works are completed safely, to standard and at the right cost
• Keeping accurate maintenance, safety and compliance records, including logging work digitally on site and reporting back to the Property team
• Liaising with residential and commercial tenants, with an understanding of how leases and service charges shape what work is carried out
• Managing a part-time cleaner
• Supporting the glamping and leisure operations, including occasional weekend or out-of-hours cover in the season

About You

You'll have substantial experience in property maintenance, facilities, estates, building maintenance or a similar practical property environment.

You might come from property management, construction, education (particularly residential or boarding settings), commercial facilities, estates or grounds management.

What matters is that you understand buildings, land, maintenance and risk, and that you're confident taking responsibility for getting things done.

You'll ideally bring:

• Strong practical maintenance and repair experience. Knowledge of roofs, drainage and general building fabric would be a real advantage
• Solid working knowledge of Health & Safety and compliance, including fire risk and Legionella
• Relevant Health & Safety or compliance training or certification (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH)
• Experience working in a landlord and tenant environment, including an understanding of leases and service charges
• Experience managing contractors and suppliers, and knowing when a quote doesn't add up
• Confidence using digital tools to log work and keep records
• Grounds or landscaping experience (a bonus)
• Good organisation, sound judgement and the ability to work independently across multiple sites
• A proactive, adaptable, solutions-focused approach

The role involves regular outdoor, on-your-feet practical work across the Estate in all seasons.

You'll ideally live within easy reach of Elstree, as the role needs someone who can respond when something unexpected comes up.

Above all, we're looking for someone with a genuine can-do attitude who takes pride in keeping properties safe, well maintained and running properly.

During the glamping season (roughly May to October), you may occasionally be asked to cover a weekend or respond to an urgent issue. There's no formal on-call rota, and it's shared with the wider team.
