What is the National Youth Commission?The National Youth Commission (NJC) of the Red Cross strengthens the youth network in the Netherlands and supports young volunteers. The NJC represents young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who work for the Red Cross at the state, district and local levels. The committee participates in the development of national policy and the Youth Strategy. Finally, the NJC maintains contact with the national and international network, organizes events and stimulates projects for young volunteers.
What are you going to do?- You organize and chair meetings of the NJC.
- You are a driver and monitor the progress of the NJC goals from the work plan.
- You are responsible for creating a sense of solidarity within the committee and support the members of the committee where necessary.
- You think and write in the next youth strategy for 2025.
- You are the point of contact for general matters towards professionals and young volunteers.
- You actively maintain contact with external relations to explore opportunities for collaboration and represent the voice of young volunteers in this;
- You represent the NJC during large-scale (youth) events of the Red Cross.
- You coordinate the mailbox of the NJC and are the administrator of the Teams page.
- You work closely with the National Youth Advisor of the Association Office.
- You are between 20 and 30 years old.
- You dare to take the lead and you have the quality to inspire, motivate and support your committee members towards a common goal.
- You can keep an overview and set priorities with which you structure the meetings and various tasks of the National Youth Commission.
- You get energy from working together and take into account the different needs, opinions and points of view of your committee members.
- You can communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including your committee members, young volunteers and Red Noise professionals.
- You have an affinity with young people and involving young people in the Red Cross.
- You speak and write Dutch well and you are comfortable speaking and writing in English.
- You are able to meet at least twice a month with both the National Youth Commission and the national youth advisor (online or physically in Utrecht, travel expenses will be reimbursed).
- You are available 6‑8 hours a week in the period August 2023 to July 2024. The working hours can be arranged flexibly.
- The opportunity to build a large network in a short time and to make valuable contacts within and outside the organization.
- Relevant work experience and the chance to strengthen your resume by leading and supervising an enthusiastic team of fellow volunteers, speaking in front of groups and working at the emergency aid organization in the Netherlands.
- Guidance in drawing up and implementing your personal development plan, with which you can further develop your skills as a leader and as a person.
- An influential position within the non‑profit sector, in which you can influence the strategy and projects of the Dutch Red Cross through the Youth Committee and thus have a positive impact on society.
- Knowledge about national and international (emergency) aid, international humanitarian law, crisis management and the seven basic principles of the Red Cross.
- The possibility to follow a first‑aid course free of charge and to get your certificate.
