General information:
Radiotherapy plays an important role in cancer care. More than half of all cancer patients undergo radiotherapy as part of their treatment. The Department of Radiotherapy at the UMCG is one of the largest clinics in Europe and annually treats more than 4,500 patients with the most modern radiation techniques. We are actively involved in the medical curriculum and offer multiple clinical and scientific internships and projects.
Student activities:
- Voucher Activities: Activities are offered on the voucher site by the Radiotherapy Department. These combine a clinical experience with interactive workshops to gain more knowledge about the radiotherapeutic treatment of tumors. Do you want to create your own activity? That is possible!
- Profiling project: The profiling project 'Radiotherapy for prostate cancer' is offered in year 2. This project consists of working with our delineation software and joining a radiation-oncologist for a day in the clinic.
- Internships: The internship Radiotherapy is part of the surgery training block in year 4 and has a duration of 6 weeks. The aim is to gain knowledge about oncology, consultation, anatomy, and radiotherapeutic aspects.
- Semi-physician training: You can perform your semi-physician training in our department, generally combined with another oncologic specialty. Depending on your learning objectives, an individual schedule is provided.
- Scientific internships: In collaboration with GSMS, projects are offered at the JSM website. These projects are very suitable as a scientific internship in year three of the medical master; it is also possible to perform research earlier in your medicine study.
