Maintenance Assistant Manager - Soho House Amsterdam

The job ...

As Maintenance Manager at Soho House Amsterdam, you have a detailed knowledge of the House, Group and its concept with a professional approach towards our guests, members and employees. You are responsible for the smooth running/day to day operation of the building and encompassing all maintenance related issues. You provide leadership to the maintenance department in support of the Soho House service culture whilst maximizing the efficiency of operations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To supervise and motivate the Maintenance team whilst ensuring that the general maintenance of the House is maintained to an agreed standard of decoration and physical repair

  • To ensure the Maintenance team is staffed with a suitable team for their function and to ensure that these team members can perform their duties to the standard required by Soho House

  • Comply with all statutory testing requirements of; boilers, emergency lighting, extinguishers, fixed electrical installation inspections, portable appliance testing, exit signage, licensing inspections, generator maintenance, UPS testing, gas installations, Ansul system, lift inspections and any other systems that apply at any time during the employment period.

  • Ensure that all health & safety, service contracts, maintenance contracts area all up to date and within legislation.

  • Monitor and supervise outside contracting to ensure compliance with the House rules

  • Personally, carry out any works / repairs as and when necessary

  • Personally, assist other members of the Maintenance team with their tasks as and when necessary

  • Initiate, manage, budget and complete projects including (but not limited to):

    • Specifying the detail of works

    • Supplier/client liaison

    • Obtaining quotes and approving plans

    • Developing the specification to the point of agreement by all the relevant parties

    • Liaising with the purchasing team to obtain the PO

    • Supervising the works

    • Checking and policing snagging lists

  • Manage and control swimming pool plants and associated equipment.

  • To follow up with each department on a daily basis on all works outstanding, planned or anticipated

  • To ensure a weekly inspection of the House is carried out, recording / rectifying any defects

  • To be responsible for the maintenance of the Guest internet access (Wi-Fi), LCD televisions, speakers, radios and entertainment systems, telephone system and any other systems that apply at any time during the employment period

  • To be able to review and set up procedures and policies for business and service improvements when required

  • To maintain effective communication within the department and with all relevant departments to ensure that the General Manager / Assistant General Manager and House Manager are kept well informed of any problems that have arisen, at all times

  • Print, organize, and separate various necessary documents, summarize relevant information, and distribute information to appropriate employees.

  • Ensure employee compliance with company standards and policies and external regulations.

  • Ensure that all employees are trained on company core values, job roles, responsibilities, and technical and service aspects of the job.

  • Effectively delegate/assign multiple tasks, check back to ensure that the work has been successfully completed on time, communicate to the interested parties and resolve any arising issues ensuring on delivering to the highest standards and quality

  • Carry out any reasonable task as requested by management.

  • Comply with the company’s standards on purchasing, invoice approval and the general ‘paper trail’ that is part of operating the maintenance operations.

What we are looking for

  • Experience in maintenance and management in the hospitality/retail industry

  • Knowledge of hospitality-related safety and environmental aspects and facilities

  • Must have experience in volume and high pressure operations

  • Must know the local Dutch market in regards to contractors for maintenance services

  • Knowledge with monumental/old buildings is a big plus

  • Knowledge of electricity, gas, water and construction

  • You are flexible to work on weekends and evenings

  • Strong verbal and written communication in English and Dutch
