How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

Business Development Manager - Remediation

Location: Cannock (Hybrid with National Travel)

Salary: £60,000 plus Car / Car allowance

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

When you see the world as we do, you see the chance to help the world take better care of its resources, and help it become a better place for everyone. It's why we're looking for someone who's just as committed as we are, to push for genuine change and bring our ambition of Ecological Transformation to life. We know that everyone here at Veolia can help us work alongside our communities, look after the environment, and contribute to our inclusive culture.

What we can offer you;

Access to our company pension scheme

Discounts on everything from groceries to well-known retailers

Access to a range of resources to support your physical, mental, and financial health; so you can lean on us whenever you need to

24-hour access to a virtual GP, 365 days a year, for you and family members in your household

One paid day's leave every year to volunteer and support your community

Ongoing training and development opportunities, allowing you to reach your full potential

What you'll be doing:

The role will focus on developing and managing relationships with civil engineering contractors, earthworks companies, real estate developers, and remediation specialists. The successful candidate will identify immediate operational and compliance requirements, provide rapid and commercially competitive solutions, and coordinate effectively with Veolia's logistics, pricing, and operational teams.

Develop and deliver a strategic business development plan across the UK.

Identify, qualify, and convert high-value opportunities across three key customer groups: COMAH and Defence site owners, Engineering and environmental consultancies, Real estate owners and developers.

Build and manage a strong pipeline of premium, margin-accretive opportunities.

Own the complete sales lifecycle, from market identification and early engagement through to contract negotiation and close.

Engage senior stakeholders to help customers protect their reputation, manage legacy liabilities, and future-proof their assets against climate and regulatory change.

Build early-stage partnerships with engineering and environmental consultancies, positioning Veolia as a preferred delivery partner within project specifications and procurement processes.

Support real estate and development customers with comprehensive contamination solutions that unlock land value and accelerate development timelines.

Connect Veolia's investigation, remediation, soil treatment, and waste management capabilities to create integrated customer solutions.

Lead consultative discovery to understand customers' functional, financial, environmental, and reputational challenges.

Influence project requirements, specifications, and procurement strategies before formal tender stages.

Develop strategic account plans and map complex stakeholder and buyer pathways.

Lead cross-functional bid teams and coordinate internal specialists through the "One Veolia" approach.

Develop and present compelling, commercially robust proposals that demonstrate the value of Veolia's integrated solutions.

Secure contracts that reflect the strategic value of comprehensive environmental management rather than competing solely on price.

Promote sustainable alternatives to traditional "dig and dump" practices, including soil washing, material recovery, and legitimate reuse through CL:AIRE Materials Management Plans.

Drive the adoption of lower-carbon engineering solutions, including bioremediation and in-situ chemical oxidation where appropriate.

Promote solutions for emerging contaminants such as PFAS, including high-temperature incineration for the permanent destruction of complex "forever chemicals".

Build long-term relationships with customers and demonstrate the commercial value of effective environmental risk and liability resolution.

Monitor and report performance across pipeline growth, account penetration, bid conversion, margin expansion, sustainability, and solution adoption.

Travel nationally to customer and Veolia sites as required.

What we are looking for:

Significant experience in business development, strategic sales, or commercial leadership within environmental services, remediation, waste management, infrastructure, engineering, consultancy, or a related sector.

Strong knowledge of contaminated land, environmental risk, remediation, soil treatment, waste management, or related environmental markets.

A proven track record of managing complex, consultative sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders and significant contract values.

Experience engaging senior leaders, board-level stakeholders, site owners, consultants, developers, and procurement teams.

Demonstrable experience developing relationships with COMAH, Defence, real estate, development, engineering, or environmental consultancy customers.

The ability to identify opportunities early, influence customer requirements, and establish preferred-partner status before procurement begins.

Strong commercial acumen, including the ability to develop value propositions, negotiate effectively, and secure profitable contracts.

Experience leading multidisciplinary bid teams and bringing together technical, operational, and commercial expertise.

Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage technical and non-technical audiences.

A consultative and customer-focused approach, with the ability to uncover the underlying operational, financial, environmental, and reputational drivers behind customer requirements.

The ability to translate complex technical solutions into clear commercial benefits, including risk reduction, land value creation, regulatory resilience, and reputational protection.

An understanding of, or enthusiasm for, innovative solutions such as material recovery, low-carbon remediation, and PFAS destruction.

Strong pipeline management, account planning, forecasting, and CRM skills.

What's next?

Apply today, so we can make a difference for generations to come.

We're proud to have been named as one of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work for three consecutive years in 2023, 2024 and 2025. This consistent recognition reflects our commitment to our people, demonstrating that Veolia is not just transforming the environment, we're also transforming what it means to have a rewarding, purposeful career.

We're dedicated to supporting you throughout your application journey, offering adjustments where reasonable and appropriate. As a proud Disability Confident Employer, we will offer an interview to applicants with a disability or long-term condition who opt-in to the Disability Confident scheme, and meet the minimum criteria for our roles.

We're also committed to ensuring that all applicants and colleagues receive fair treatment without discrimination on any grounds, aiming to create a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive
