SEMH Teaching Assistant - Secondary School

TradeWind Recruitment is currently recruiting for a resilient and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary setting in Eccles. This full-time role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, supporting them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes.

The school supports secondary-aged pupils who may have experienced challenges within mainstream education and require additional support with their emotional regulation, behaviour, social skills, and engagement in learning. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to provide both academic and emotional support throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities:

Support pupils with SEMH needs on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.

Build positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and progress.

Assist in managing challenging behaviours using positive behaviour support strategies.

Support pupils both inside and outside of the classroom to help them access learning.

Promote emotional wellbeing, resilience, and self-confidence.

Work alongside teachers and other professionals to implement personalised support plans.

Help create a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Experience working with young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or additional support needs.

A calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting vulnerable learners.

Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.

Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.

Experience in education, youth work, mentoring, residential care, sports coaching, or similar support roles would be advantageous.

A genuine passion for helping young people succeed both academically and personally.
