How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Reporting to the Group Finance Accountant, the Payroll Specialist will take ownership of the payroll function, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of weekly and four-weekly payrolls across multiple sites. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining compliance, supporting employees and driving continuous improvement within payroll operations.

The role provides an excellent opportunity to influence payroll processes and make a positive impact across the wider organisation.

  • Manage the end-to-end processing of weekly and four-weekly payrolls for employees across multiple sites.
  • Collate, review and verify payroll information, timesheets and employee data to ensure accuracy.
  • Process payroll amendments including new starters, leavers, salary changes and employee record updates.
  • Administer workplace pension schemes, including auto-enrolment and opt-out processes.
  • Download, review and implement HMRC notifications including tax code and student loan updates.
  • Ensure all payroll submissions and payments are completed accurately and within statutory deadlines.
  • Produce year-end payroll documentation, including P60s, and complete annual payroll updates.
  • Prepare contracts of employment and maintain accurate employee records within payroll and HR systems.
  • Liaise professionally with employees, HMRC, pension providers and other external stakeholders.
  • Provide support and cover for monthly payroll activities when required.
  • Review and evaluate existing payroll procedures, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and compliance.
  • Support the implementation of new payroll processes and best practice initiatives.
  • Ensure payroll activities are carried out in line with company policies, payroll legislation and confidentiality requirements.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in a Payroll position.
  • Proficient in Sage 50 Payroll.
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and pension administration.
  • Excellent numerical and data processing skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience working within a busy office environment and managing multiple deadlines.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and payroll systems.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise workload and use initiative.
  • Proven ability to identify process improvements and drive positive change.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional, confidential and customer-focused approach.

Offering

  • Salary of £DOE per annum.
  • Opportunity to take ownership of the payroll function and influence operational improvements.
  • A role where ideas and initiative are welcomed and valued.
  • Ideally a full-time position; however, flexibility can be offered for the right candidate, including: 5 days per week, working 5 hours per day; or 4 full working days per week.
  • Supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • Opportunity to join a successful and growing organisation.
  • Varied role with responsibility, autonomy and the chance to make a tangible impact.
