How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

Customer Service Advisor

Location: Lackham

Do you have experience delivering excellent customer service, supporting customers, students, or colleagues, and are looking for a role that offers greater stability, purpose, and work–life balance? Or do you come from a retail, hospitality, contact centre, administration, or customer-facing background and want to use your skills in a rewarding educational environment?

Based at our stunning Lackham Campus, set within 500 acres of beautiful Wiltshire countryside, you'll work in a unique environment that combines outstanding customer service with one of the region's leading educational settings. The campus is home to exceptional specialist Land Based facilities, supporting a wide range of curriculum areas including agriculture, animal management, equine studies, horticulture, and countryside management.

If you're ready to step away from unpredictable shift patterns, sales-driven targets, or high-pressure customer service environments, this is your opportunity to join a supportive organisation where helping people is at the heart of what you do.

Join Wiltshire College & University Centre and become a key part of the customer experience — providing professional, friendly, and efficient support to students, visitors, staff, and external stakeholders while building a rewarding career in education.

What We Offer

💷 Salary: £15,387 rising to £15,710 per year (Full Time equivalent £25,304 - £25,835 per year)

🕰️ Contract Type: Permanent, Part Time 22.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday), 52 weeks per year

✔️ Outstanding Benefits

• Local Government Pension Scheme – a secure, long-term investment in your future
• Generous Holiday Entitlement – 30 days, pro rata paid annual leave plus 8 pro rata paid bank holidays
• College closure and wellbeing days – including a 2-week pro rata paid Christmas closure
• Employee Assistance Programme – 24/7 confidential wellbeing, legal, and financial support
• Free On-Site Gyms – available across multiple campuses
• Lifestyle Discounts – savings on retail, technology, travel, and leisure
• Cycle-to-Work Scheme – stay active while saving money
• Professional Development – ongoing training and career development opportunities
• Additional Perks – discounted meals, hair & beauty services, and reduced attraction entry

A stable, people-focused role with benefits that support both your career and your wellbeing.

What You'll Do

• Deliver a professional, welcoming, and efficient front-line customer service experience for students, staff, visitors, and external enquiries

• Respond to customer enquiries in person, by telephone, email, and online channels, ensuring a high standard of service

• Provide information and guidance on courses, admissions, enrolment, facilities, and college services

• Support student admissions, enrolment, and administrative processes, ensuring records are accurate and up to date

• Resolve customer queries effectively, escalating complex issues where appropriate

• Work collaboratively with colleagues across campuses and departments to ensure customers receive the support they need

• Maintain accurate records and contribute to continuous improvement of customer service standards

What You'll Bring

• A Literacy and numeracy Level 2 qualification (GCSE A-C or equivalent)

• Experience in a customer service, reception, administration, retail, hospitality, or other customer-facing role

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships

• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

• Confidence using IT systems and managing multiple enquiries effectively

• A calm, professional, and solution-focused approach

• Experience within an educational environment is desirable but not essential

(or equivalent customer service experience that you are keen to develop further within the education sector)

✨ Why Choose This Path?

Continue using your customer service and people skills — without:

• Unsociable shift patterns and weekend-heavy schedules

• Sales-focused targets and commission pressure

• Limited opportunities for development and progression

A role where you can make a genuine difference every day, support learners on their educational journey, and enjoy the security and benefits of working within a respected educational institution.

⚡ Make a move that truly pays off

If you're ready for a secure, rewarding, and people-focused role where excellent customer service helps transform lives through education, we'd love to hear from you.

Please note:

Your Application Form will be shortlisted against how your skills, qualifications and experience match the Essential and Desirable points on the Person Specification for this role, located at the bottom of this page as a downloadable document.

Vacancies may close early if sufficient applications have been received; therefore, we would encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.
