How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Drive Projects Across the Finish Line

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Manager / Project Engineer (MEICA) to play a pivotal role in the successful completion, handover and close-out of major projects within the UK water sector.

This position is ideal for a delivery-focused professional who thrives in fast-paced environments and enjoys taking ownership of projects during their most critical phase. Working closely with senior leadership, engineering, commissioning, commercial and site teams, the successful candidate will ensure all technical, operational and contractual requirements are achieved, leading projects through testing, commissioning and final handover.

Initially offered as a 3-6 month assignment, the role also presents the potential for longer-term opportunities, subject to project requirements and performance.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving MEICA projects through their final stages of delivery, ensuring nothing is left unresolved between construction, commissioning and operational handover.

This is a hands-on position requiring a blend of technical expertise, stakeholder management and project leadership. The role demands an individual who can confidently manage commissioning activities, resolve technical challenges, coordinate multiple stakeholders and maintain momentum through to successful project completion.

Reporting directly to the Senior Project Manager, the individual will become a key figure in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

Lead MEICA project activities through testing, commissioning, handover and final close-out.
Provide regular progress updates to the Senior Project Manager, highlighting risks, opportunities and completion milestones.
Coordinate mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control disciplines to achieve successful project delivery.
Take ownership of outstanding actions, ensuring defects, technical queries and commissioning issues are resolved promptly.
Manage project completion programmes and close-out activities, ensuring all deliverables are achieved.
Oversee client and operational handover processes, ensuring contractual, technical and operational requirements are fully satisfied.
Collaborate with clients, water utility representatives, subcontractors, suppliers and site teams to drive project success.
Support project meetings, reporting on programme, quality, costs, risks and outstanding actions.
Ensure project documentation, records and handover packs are complete, accurate and audit-ready.
Manage subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring work is delivered safely, on time and to specification.
Support commercial activities, including variations, compensation events, final accounts and cost reporting where required.
Work closely with commissioning and operations teams to ensure a seamless transition into operational service.
Capture and communicate lessons learned to support continuous improvement across future projects.

About the Candidate

The successful applicant will bring a strong background in MEICA project delivery within the UK water and wastewater industry, alongside a proven ability to drive projects through commissioning, handover and commercial close-out.

Essential Experience

Proven experience as a Project Manager, Project Engineer or similar within the water sector.
Strong MEICA and commissioning background with a solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control systems.
Experience delivering projects for UK water utilities.
Demonstrable success managing projects through testing, commissioning and operational handover.
Strong understanding of project completion processes, handover documentation and client acceptance requirements.
Experience leading subcontractors, suppliers and delivery teams.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and project documentation.
Sound knowledge of health & safety, CDM regulations and quality management requirements.
Excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Proven ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining delivery focus.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent engineering qualification.
Experience working under NEC contracts, particularly NEC4.
Familiarity with CEMAR or similar project management platforms.
Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes.
Experience with SCADA, PLCs, telemetry, MCCs, process systems and instrumentation.
CSCS, SMSTS or equivalent site-based qualifications.

Key Attributes

The ideal candidate will be:

Results-driven and hands-on, with a passion for delivering projects successfully.

Comfortable operating both strategically and technically.

Experienced in taking projects from "substantially complete" to fully commissioned, handed over and commercially closed.

Proactive in tackling challenges and resolving outstanding actions.

Confident when dealing directly with clients and key stakeholders.

Commercially aware, understanding the impact of programme, documentation and commissioning activities on project outcomes.

An effective communicator capable of coordinating multiple teams and driving performance.
