How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are seeking Healthy Homes Manager to join the team based in Great Wenham. The successful candidate will earn a competitive salary of £46,579 - £54,143 per annum (pro rata for part time).

This role is open to full time, part time, and job share applications, all of which will be assessed equally.

Join our team

We are looking for a Healthy Homes Manager to join our Housing Repairs and Maintenance team.

If you share our values and you are motivation to make a difference for our residents, clients, and communities, we would love to hear from you.

About the role

As our Healthy Homes Manager, you will play a key role in delivering our response to Awaab's Law and managing housing condition hazards across our housing stock. You will lead the Council's Damp and Mould service delivery along with future compliance with Awaab's Law Phased Implementation, helping to ensure our residents live in safe, healthy and compliant homes.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading the Council's compliance with Awaab's Law and housing condition regulations.

Managing investigations into damp, mould, condensation and other housing hazards.

Undertaking building pathology assessments and identifying the root cause of property defects.

Overseeing repairs from diagnosis through to completion, ensuring works are delivered to the required standard and within statutory timescales.

Working closely with Housing, Property Assets, Compliance and Repairs teams to deliver effective solutions for residents.

Managing specialist contractors and monitoring quality, performance and value for money.

Assessing risks to resident health and wellbeing and ensuring appropriate support for vulnerable households.

Producing performance reports, compliance information and recommendations to support service improvement and regulatory compliance.

Supporting Housing Ombudsman investigations, regulatory inspections and continuous improvement activity.

About you

We are looking for a knowledgeable and motivated housing professional with experience of managing housing condition cases and delivering excellent outcomes for residents.

You will have:

A qualification in Building Surveying, Building Pathology, Construction, Building Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

Experience managing damp, mould, and housing condition issues within residential or social housing environments.

Strong knowledge of Awaab's Law, HHSRS, Homes Fit For Habitation and other housing legislation and regulatory requirements.

Experience investigating property defects and identifying effective long-term solutions.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to a wide range of audiences.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make evidence-based decisions.

Experience managing contractors, monitoring performance and driving service improvements.

The ability to manage complex cases, prioritise workloads and meet statutory deadlines.

A resident-focused approach, with a commitment to improving health, safety and wellbeing outcomes.

The ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, contractors and external stakeholders.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape a developing service, influence how we respond to housing condition challenges, and make a real difference to the lives of residents.

About us

At Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils we are passionate about building communities that people want to live, work, visit and invest in.

We serve around 200,000 residents across our two districts and are well known for our collaboration and partnership working across public, private and voluntary sectors.

We believe that the heart of Suffolk is an incredibly special place to live and work, with:

60 conservation areas

two National Landscapes

many picturesque market towns

It is no surprise we are ranked among the top 50 places to live in the UK (United Kingdom).

Benefits

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including:

Generous leave entitlement (26 days a year, rising to 31 days after 5 years).

Competitive Local Government Pension Scheme.

Wellbeing Support and Employee Assistance Programs.

Private Health Care Options.

Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice Scheme.

Paid volunteering days.

Flexible and hybrid working arrangements (Business needs permitting).

Great learning and development opportunities.

For more information, visit our Employee Benefits page.

Our ways of working

We believe work is what we do, not just where we go.

We work in a hybrid way, with a mix of office, home, and remote based working (Business need permitting). Our hybrid working arrangements support flexibility and collaboration, helping our teams to thrive.

We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, providing opportunity and ambition for all, supporting and enabling our people to deliver the best possible services for our residents.

Closing date: 5.00 pm, 19 October 2026.

If you think you have what it takes to be successful in this Healthy Homes Manager role, even if you don’t meet all the requirements, please apply. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.

This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. DBS checks or police vetting will be required for relevant posts
