How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

Are you passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence to succeed? Do you have a calm, patient, and resilient approach when supporting children who may struggle with behaviour, emotional regulation, or social situations?

A welcoming school in Chippenham, Wiltshire is looking for a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join its support and pastoral team from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to work closely with children, helping them develop positive behaviours, improve their engagement with education, and build the skills they need to thrive.

The successful candidate will provide consistent, individualised support to children who may need additional guidance with their emotional wellbeing, behaviour, relationships, or ability to access learning.

The Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will provide focused support to children both in the classroom and across the wider school environment. You will develop strong relationships with children, understand the factors contributing to their behaviour, and help them develop practical strategies for managing challenges more successfully.

Your responsibilities will include:

Delivering one-to-one and small-group mentoring for children with behavioural, emotional, or social needs.
Establishing positive relationships built on trust, consistency, and clear boundaries.
Helping children recognise emotions, identify triggers, and develop appropriate coping strategies.
Supporting children to manage conflict, frustration, anxiety, and other challenges that may affect their behaviour.
Helping children re-engage with lessons following periods of difficulty or disengagement.
Encouraging positive communication, social interaction, independence, and self-confidence.
Implementing individual behaviour strategies and support plans consistently.
Working closely with teachers, SEN staff, pastoral teams, and school leaders to monitor progress.
Providing relevant feedback and observations to help staff understand children's needs and development.
Contributing to a safe, structured, and supportive school environment.
Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and following all school policies and procedures.

The Children You Will Support

You may work with children who experience difficulties such as emotional regulation, low self-esteem, anxiety, impulsivity, social communication, frustration, conflict, or disengagement from learning.

The role is focused on looking beyond the behaviour itself and helping children understand the reasons behind their responses. You will support children to recognise triggers, develop positive coping mechanisms, and make more appropriate choices.

Every child will have different needs, meaning the role requires flexibility and the ability to adapt your approach. One day you could be helping a child rebuild their confidence after a difficult lesson, while another day you may be supporting a child with managing relationships and resolving conflict.

About You

The ideal candidate will be compassionate, emotionally aware, dependable, and confident in maintaining appropriate boundaries. You should be able to remain calm in challenging situations and understand that progress can sometimes happen gradually.

Experience working with children would be advantageous, particularly within education, youth work, care, sports, mentoring, or behaviour support. However, the school is also open to graduates and candidates with strong transferable skills who are passionate about developing a career within education or support services.

The experience gained could be particularly valuable for individuals considering careers in:

Psychology and Educational Psychology
Behaviour Support
Special Educational Needs
Teaching
Pastoral Care
Youth Work
Counselling
Social Care

What We Offer

£85-£110 per day, depending on experience.
Full-time and part-time positions available.
September 2026 start.
PAYE weekly pay.
Practical experience supporting children with a range of needs.
The opportunity to learn from experienced teaching and pastoral professionals.
Valuable experience for future careers in education, psychology, SEND, and behaviour support.

Apply today to find out more about this September 2026 Behaviour Mentor position and begin developing valuable experience in a rewarding educational environment.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy
