How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

Are you passionate about helping children understand and manage their behaviour, develop emotional resilience and overcome barriers to learning? Do you have the patience, consistency and empathy needed to support children who may struggle with emotional regulation, social interaction or behaviour?

We are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join a welcoming school in Swindon, supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and a range of behavioural and emotional difficulties.

This Behaviour Mentor role would suit someone who enjoys building positive relationships with children and wants to understand the reasons behind behaviour rather than simply responding to it. Whether you have previous experience in behaviour support, education or childcare, or you are a graduate looking to develop experience in Psychology, Education, SEND or Pastoral Care, this could be an excellent opportunity.

The Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will provide consistent, child-centred support to help children manage their behaviour, regulate their emotions and engage positively with education.

Your responsibilities as a Behaviour Mentor will include:

Providing 1:1 and targeted behavioural support to children throughout the school day.
Building trusting and professional relationships that encourage confidence, self-esteem and emotional wellbeing.
Supporting children to identify emotional triggers and understand the factors contributing to their behaviour.
Implementing individualised behaviour strategies and agreed support plans.
Helping children develop practical coping, self-regulation and emotional management strategies.
Supporting children to manage frustration, anxiety, conflict and challenging situations.
Encouraging positive communication, respectful interactions and appropriate social behaviour.
Helping children re-engage with lessons following periods of emotional or behavioural difficulty.
Promoting positive relationships between children, peers and members of staff.
Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and pastoral teams to monitor behaviour and contribute to children's progress.
Recording relevant observations and communicating concerns or progress appropriately.
Following safeguarding, behaviour, health and safety and school policies at all times.A successful Behaviour Mentor will take a proactive approach to behaviour support, helping children understand the consequences of their actions while giving them the tools and encouragement needed to make more positive choices.

About You

We are looking for a Behaviour Mentor who is calm, patient and compassionate, with a genuine interest in understanding children's behaviour and emotional needs.

The ideal candidate will:

Have experience supporting children or young people with behavioural, emotional or additional needs, although this is not essential.
Understand that challenging behaviour can sometimes be a form of communication or indicate an unmet need.
Be confident remaining calm and consistent when supporting children during challenging situations.
Have strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Be able to establish clear boundaries while maintaining a supportive and encouraging approach.
Be observant and able to identify potential behavioural triggers.
Have a genuine interest in child development, emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour support.
Be resilient, reflective and willing to adapt strategies according to individual children's needs.Previous experience as a Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Support Worker, Pastoral Assistant or similar role would be advantageous.

You will gain practical experience supporting children with a range of behavioural and emotional needs while developing transferable skills in communication, de-escalation, emotional regulation, safeguarding and relationship building.

What We Offer

This Behaviour Mentor opportunity provides:

£85-£110 per day, depending on experience.
PAYE weekly pay.
Full-time and part-time opportunities.
September 2026 start.
A supportive school environment in Swindon.
Hands-on experience supporting children with SEN, SEMH and behavioural needs.
The opportunity to develop practical behaviour-management and mentoring skills.
Experience working alongside teachers, SEN professionals and pastoral teams.
Excellent experience for aspiring psychologists, educators, youth workers and other child-focused professionals.

Make a Difference as a Behaviour Mentor

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will have the opportunity to become a consistent and positive influence in a child's school experience. Through patience, structure and encouragement, you will help children recognise their emotions, develop healthier responses to difficult situations and build the confidence to participate more positively in education.

If you are ready to take on a rewarding Behaviour Mentor role where your support can make a genuine difference to children's behaviour, wellbeing and progress, apply today for this opportunity in Swindon.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy
