Shift Leader – Production (FMCG)
Basingstoke | £32,500 | Afternoon Shift (2pm–10pm)
We’re recruiting on behalf of a well-established FMCG production business in the Basingstoke area for an experienced Shift Leader to take ownership of their afternoon shift.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume FMCG environment, keeping the production floor running smoothly, hitting output targets, maintaining exacting quality and hygiene standards, and getting the best out of their team.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll lead and supervise the production team during your shift, allocating tasks and resource to meet the production plan, and running clear shift briefings and handovers so nothing gets lost between teams. In a high-speed FMCG setting, you’ll monitor output and line performance against targets, stepping in quickly to address any shortfalls, and support efficient changeovers and line set-up to keep downtime to a minimum.
You’ll also maintain accurate production and batch records using in-house systems, carry out quality checks and take corrective action where needed, and uphold the strict hygiene, GMP and product safety standards expected in consumer goods manufacturing, including cleaning schedules, allergen controls, traceability and housekeeping.
On the people side, you’ll motivate, coach and support your team, handling performance and conduct matters in line with company procedure, and develop team members so they can step up and cover shift leader duties when needed. Health & safety is a constant thread throughout: running toolbox talks and safety briefings, ensuring correct PPE use, and supporting the investigation of any accidents or near misses.
What we’re looking for
* Previous experience in an FMCG manufacturing environment (food, drink, personal care, household goods or similar fast-moving, high-volume production) is essential
* Proven experience in a supervisory or team leader role on a production line
* Strong leadership and people management skills, with a solid understanding of production processes, quality standards and health & safety requirements
* Working knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards (e.g. GMP, HACCP, BRC or equivalent) is highly desirable
* Experience with production or warehouse management systems is desirable, and you should be confident using Microsoft Office and comfortable picking up new systems
* Good communication skills: you’ll need to motivate a team and liaise confidently across departments
You will be proactive, decisive and calm under pressure, with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a time-critical, target-driven environment. An approachable, fair leadership style, a flexible and reliable, hands-on attitude, and a genuine commitment to quality, hygiene and safety standards will set you up to succeed in this role
