The position is suitable for a newly qualified CIMA or ACCA accountant looking to take ownership of the management accounting function and work directly with senior decision-makers.
The successful candidate will oversee and support the company’s bookkeeper while remaining involved in bookkeeping, financial controls, payroll, billing, credit control, cash-flow management and month-end reporting.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare complete monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, cash-flow statement and supporting schedules.
Produce a monthly Board reporting pack with clear commentary on financial performance, key movements, risks and opportunities.
Present monthly financial results to the Board and respond confidently to financial and commercial questions.
Analyse revenue, gross profit, overheads, operating profit, job profitability and departmental performance.
Report actual performance against budget, forecast and prior periods, explaining material variances.

Provide recommendations to improve profitability, pricing, cost control, cash flow and working-capital management.
Prepare annual budgets, rolling forecasts and financial models to support the company’s business plans.
Provide financial analysis for new contracts, major purchases, investment proposals and other commercial decisions.
Month-End and Financial Control
Manage the month-end timetable and ensure management accounts are completed accurately and on time.
Review accruals, prepayments, depreciation, deferred income, revenue recognition and other accounting adjustments.
Prepare and review balance-sheet reconciliations and investigate any unreconciled balances.
Maintain effective financial controls, reporting processes and approval procedures across the business.
Ensure the accuracy and completeness of accounting records maintained within Xero.
Identify weaknesses in financial systems or controls and implement practical improvements.
Bookkeeping and Team Supervision
Oversee and support the company’s bookkeeper, allocate priorities and review the accuracy of completed work.
Provide guidance and training to the bookkeeper and ensure all accounting records are kept up to date.
Remain hands-on when required with sales invoices, supplier invoices, expenses, credit notes, bank transactions and journals.
Review sales ledger, purchase ledger, bank, payroll and other control-account reconciliations.
Ensure supporting documentation is properly maintained and financial transactions are correctly authorised and recorded.
Cash Flow, Credit Control and Invoice Finance
Prepare and maintain daily, weekly and longer-term cash-flow forecasts.
Monitor available funds, planned payments and upcoming financial commitments.
Oversee customer billing and credit control, ensuring invoices are issued promptly and overdue balances are actively pursued.
Monitor debtor days, aged receivables, supplier commitments and overall working-capital performance.
Manage the company’s invoice discounting facility, including reconciliations, funding availability, lender reporting and verification requests.
Maintain effective relationships with the company’s bank, invoice finance provider, external accountants and other financial stakeholders.
Payroll, Compliance and Year-End
Review or process payroll using BrightPay, including starters, leavers, deductions, pensions, statutory payments and final entitlements.
Ensure PAYE, workplace pension, VAT, CIS and other statutory submissions are completed accurately and on time.
Coordinate the annual accounts process and provide supporting schedules and information to the company’s external accountants.
Support tax compliance and respond to financial queries from auditors, accountants, banks and other advisers.
