How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

Help us to make a world of difference

Urenco  is a global leader in the production of low carbon energy. We work at the cutting edge of the transition to a sustainable, net zero world.

We’re looking for a Senior Lead Government Affairs EU & UK.   Based at our Paddington site, you will engage externally with government officials, MPs, MEPs and trade associations to support Urenco’s commercial objectives. The role will primarily support the UK and EU Directors of Government Affairs in the development and delivery of government affairs strategies and stakeholder engagement activities, while ensuring the effective transfer of intelligence, analysis and policy insights to senior internal stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have strong political acumen and stakeholder management skills, with an understanding of the geopolitical, regulatory, and policy factors shaping the energy sector. They will have a established knowledge of the EU institutions and Brussels policymaking environment, as well as Whitehall, Parliament and the wider UK political landscape. The role requires the ability to anticipate, analyse and interpret political, legislative and regulatory developments, providing clear strategic advice to senior business leaders on their implications for Urenco’s operations and commercial objectives. Experience of working in or closely with the Brussels policy environment would be a significant advantage.

At Urenco we’re committed to giving you opportunities to be your best. If you feel you meet some, but not all of what we're looking for, please still apply. We believe in embracing the passion and potential of our people, and to achieve this we offer market leading training and development experiences. Along with the opportunity to be mentored and coached by some of the smartest minds in the industry.

What you’ll do:

To proactively engage on behalf of Urenco to shape policy development and new laws and regulations and political debates which touch on nuclear, energy policy, and URENCO in general.
To provide updates to internal stakeholders (including to draft and present political reports to the Board) and to draft position papers for use with external stakeholders.
To work closely and collaboratively with URENCO colleagues, especially in Communications, Legal, Commercial, and Government Affairs, and external advisers.
To analyse developments relating to energy policy, industrial strategy, trade, geopolitics, non-proliferation, export controls, and nuclear regulation, translating these into business recommendation
To learn and understand the various nuclear regulations that interact with Urenco’s business in the UK and the EU and to be able to work with the commercial teams to support their compliance.
To deliver and provide input to EU wide government affairs projects, including REPowerEU
Establish a creative, engaging, and proactive integrated external communications plan, including that the company’s public relations efforts in the EU are cohesive, consistent, and effective in supporting the overall mission and strategic goals.
Advocate Urenco’s position through, among other means, meetings with industry stakeholders, representing the company at key forums and events and working with allied organisations and stakeholders to advance Urenco’s interests.
Draft position papers, consultation responses, political updates, briefing notes, speeches, and reports for internal and external stakeholders, including Board-level reporting.
Raise the profile of the company through project managing events (in-person, virtual and hybrid), securing high profile speaking opportunities and preparing keynote presentations and speeches. Promote the need for research and evaluation of communications activities, analysing the results and driving improvement and best practice.
What do you need to thrive in this role?

Experience working in Brussels and/or working in an international company (managing cross-border matters and projects) is helpful.
Experience of working within the energy or nuclear sector or other ‘In-house’ government relations experience in a highly regulated sector
Experience working in Whitehall or demonstrable level of working closely with UK government is helpful.
Demonstrated ability to create targeted external communications, ideally with UK government officials and industry bodies.
Management of internal and external stakeholders and external advisers
Excellent Brussels understanding and network, including an understanding of political parties, their platforms and key decision-makers.
Appreciation of public policy surrounding nuclear issues, Net Zero, COP conferences, trade policy, and the role of nuclear energy with renewables.
Understanding and interest in politics and international relations
An understanding of non-proliferation and export control regimes would be an advantage but is not essential.
UK/Whitehall knowledge/experience an advantage

What can you expect from us?

More than just a job, we offer a future. More than just a place to work, we provide an opportunity to prosper.  As an employee of Urenco you will receive:

Annual leave of 27 days per annum.

A generous bonus scheme based on achievement of personal and company objectives.
A diverse range of family friendly policies.
A defined contribution pension scheme: employer contributions up to 16%
Hybrid Working Pattern: up to two days working remotely on average per week. Flexible start and finish times, with a 1.30pm finish on Fridays.
Flexible benefits package; including life assurance and income protection. In addition, you’ll have an opportunity to purchase additional benefits that suit your lifestyle.
Paid time off for volunteering.

The opportunity to join our private medical and dental insurance schemes.
Education and training; we take pride in helping people learn and develop by supporting, accelerating and directing your learning. As well as the completion of mandatory health and safety courses, training packages will be offered to meet your specific needs.

Security vetting

Due to the nature of the industry that Urenco operates in, all personnel regardless of employment status working for Urenco are required to obtain security clearance at the level required for their role. Security clearances are assessed in accordance with regulations and official guidance issued by the relevant competent authorities for national security vetting. In certain circumstances, additional enhanced security clearance considerations apply to roles within Urenco owing to the particular activities that the Urenco Group undertakes in relation to uranium enrichment. Successful candidates will need to satisfy security requirements, and all offers of appointment are made subject to the successful approval of all checks initiated.

Creating a diverse and inclusive workforce

As a truly global company with a presence in the UK, USA, Germany, and the Netherlands, we know that our individual differences make us stronger. Putting people at the heart of our business, we strive to create an open and inclusive workplace that allows every voice to be heard and diversity to thrive. If you require any reasonable adjustments to the recruitment process, please let our talent acquisition team know.

Because together, we are one Urenco. We are enriching the world. And enriching your future
