The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:
Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.
My client is a growing engineering consultancy operating across the UK power and utilities sector. Due to continued project demand, they are looking to appoint an experienced Principal Cable Design Engineer to support the delivery of complex, high-value infrastructure schemes.
This is a technically focused role offering the opportunity to lead, check and approve cable design work while mentoring others and contributing to wider business performance.
The Role
You'll be responsible for delivering technically robust cable designs, ensuring work is right-first-time and compliant with statutory and industry standards. You'll work closely with Project Managers and engineering teams to deliver projects safely, on programme and within budget.
Key responsibilities include:
Producing, checking and approving cable designs using industry-standard software
Leading technical input across projects, including design risk and constraint management
Ensuring compliance with CDM, statutory and industry standards
Reviewing and critiquing design outputs, drawings and technical notes
Supporting project delivery through effective planning, coordination and communication
Mentoring and developing less experienced engineers
Contributing to forecasting, resourcing and wider business delivery
Promoting best practice, lessons learned and continuous improvement
About You
You'll be an experienced cable design engineer with the confidence to work autonomously while supporting and guiding others.
Essential experience:
3-5+ years' experience in cable design
Strong background in UK power, utilities, telecoms or related infrastructure sectors
Proven use of CYMCAP, ELEK, Cableizer or similar tools
Experience delivering designs to time, cost and quality constraints
Ability to review, challenge and approve technical outputs
Qualifications:
Degree in Electrical Engineering (essential)
Chartership or working towards (desirable)
