How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Make a Difference to the Lives of Children and Young People

City of Wolverhampton Council is looking for compassionate, resilient and dedicated Children's Home Care Workers (Residential) to join our Children's Family Homes service.

This rewarding role provides an opportunity to support children and young people in a family-style residential environment, helping them achieve stability, improve their wellbeing, and reach their full potential. You will work across our residential homes, including our specialist short breaks service at Upper Pendeford Farm.

About Our Short Breaks Home

Upper Pendeford Farm

6-bed residential home
Typically supports between 2 and 4 children at any one time
Provides short break and respite care services
Supports children with emotional and behavioural needs

What You'll Be Doing

As a Children's Home Care Worker, you will:

Create a safe, nurturing and supportive family environment for children and young people.
Support children in line with their care plans and individual needs.
Build positive relationships with children, families and professionals.
Act as a Key Worker and contribute to assessments, support plans and reviews.
Promote children's physical, emotional, social and educational development.
Organise and participate in activities that encourage growth, confidence and independence.
Prepare and cook meals while considering dietary, cultural and individual requirements.
Maintain accurate records and reports.
Support children to attend appointments, education and activities.
Contribute to maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming home environment.
Work collaboratively with social workers, health professionals, education providers and external agencies.
Promote safeguarding and advocate for the needs of children and young people.

What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from candidates who have:

Experience working with children and young people, particularly those with emotional and behavioural needs.
Knowledge and understanding of the needs of children in care.
Strong safeguarding knowledge and practice, including responding to issues such as missing episodes and child protection concerns.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
A caring, patient and resilient approach.
The ability to work as part of a team and independently.
Flexibility to work across multiple homes and undertake sleep-in shifts.A full driving licence is desirable.

Special Conditions

The role involves working shifts, including sleep-ins.
The post holder may be required to carry out recognised restraint techniques when necessary following approved training. This is uncommon, and the service is committed to the principles of the Restraint Reduction Network.
The successful candidate must be willing to work across all Children's Family Homes throughout the city, including the Short Breaks Home.
