The position is located within the department of Geoscience and Remote Sensing (GRS). We seek to advance the understanding of dynamic processes on—and human interaction with—Earth, with a focus on geodesy and atmospheric sciences. The approach is based on the development of observation technology as well as the modelling of processes. Our ambition is to create an interdisciplinary research environment in which scientific staff and students explore, learn, and teach. GRS (with about 110 staff members of which 25 faculty staff) conducts a research programme in the disciplines of geodesy, remote sensing, data science, earth-oriented space research, and climate and atmospheric sciences. It focuses on the interrelation between new observational techniques and applications in engineering and geosciences, including the development of space-borne, airborne, and ground-based methods and models. The department has an internationally leading role in research related to 2D and 3D surveying, geodesy, satellite remote sensing, natural hazards, geodynamics and climate studies.
GRS is one of the 7 departments within the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences (CEG) The Faculty is committed to outstanding international research and education in the field of civil engineering, applied earth sciences, traffic and transport, water technology and delta technology. The research covers global social issues and is closely connected to education as well as the work of a wide range of knowledge institutions. CEG is convinced that Open Science helps to realise these goals and supports its scientists in integrating Open Science in their research practice.Functie omschrijving
We are looking for an experienced Technician to oversee the management and maintenance of TU Delft equipment related to the Ruisdael Observatory for atmospheric Sciences.
The Ruisdael Observatory is a recently established national atmospheric measurement platform which combines in-situ measurement and advanced ground-based remote sensing at multiple locations in the Netherlands (Cabauw, the city of Rotterdam, the forested area of Loobos and the coastal area around Lutjewad). The observatory also operates a mobile platform including a wide variety of sensors and remote sensing devices.
• Manage all TU Delft equipment linked to the Ruisdael observatory for atmospheric sciences (cloud radars, rain radars, radiometers etc).
• Provide technical support to staff members for the installation/deployment of new equipment and during measurement campaigns.
• Plan and schedule regular trips to the measurement sites in Cabauw, Delft, Rotterdam and Lutjewad for maintenance and quality control purposes and to repair faulty equipment.
• Establish rules and procedures for the secure maintenance, operation and calibration of sensors.
• Maintain a detailed logbook documenting all maintenance, repairs and change of settings.
• Maintain an up-to-date inventory of available equipment and supplies.
• Write documentation for all measurement sites.
The ideal candidate will have a HBO-degree in specialty electronic engineering or equivalent, with an affinity for performing technical work and small repairs on electronical and mechanical equipment. You will be tech-savvy, detail-oriented and possess excellent troubleshooting skills.
• Technical skills – capable of performing repairs on electronical and mechanical equipment.
• Problem-solving – ability to quickly identify and troubleshoot problems.
• Organization – Well-organized with the ability to plan ahead and prioritize tasks.
• Communication – excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Dutch.
