Global Category Manager-Project Material is responsible to identify, select, qualify and continuously develop the best supply base through the total cost of ownership (TCO) to exceed the internal and external superior customer experience from tendering till end of the life cycle. He or she has the responsibility to meet and exceed, for the assigned area of responsibility, the agreed division targets and secure the execution of all division strategic initiatives. He or she has the responsibility to coordinate and align category team members located into different local divisions. Global Category Manager Project Material has strong commitment to develop the business in the long run, in close co-operation with Suppliers, Sales, R&D, Operations, PE/Q, Supplier quality and other functions involved both in the daily operative needs and long-term business needs to the division. The Global Category Manager – Project Material is the primary interface for the Global Product Packaging, TEC locations and category teams, customers (when required) for all SCM matters. Acts as escalation path towards suppliers and ABB internal. This role report to the Global SCM Manager. This role graded as Global Grade 12.

Your responsibilities
  • Category strategy 2025, flight plan and actions follow up with global and local teams and aligned with the Operations.
  • Aligns project sourcing activities with SCM strategy and approved project’s vendor list. Escalates exceptions to ensure best performance on cost, quality, and availability.
  • Ensures proper alignment between local and global activities for the project execution.
  • Meet and exceed targets set for own category (Cost reductions, Supplier OTD, Supplier Quality, lead time etc.) with the help of other support functions (Logistic and Supplier Quality).
  • Lead the Global SCM Team dedicated to Project activities (dotted line leadership)
  • Develop suppliers in close collaborations with the SAMs (Supplier Account Managers), operations, mgmt. mentors and other relevant parties.
  • Have selected supplier’s SAM responsibility by him/herself.
  • Accountable for global and local divisions performances for own category: Material availability and Supplier OTD; Super critical components project management; Supplier selections in NPD Sourcing as well as changes in volume business; Region for region and TCO based cost competitiveness, cost reductions and business allocation; Supplier Quality and reliability development, supported by Supplier Quality Manager; Cash creation by VMI, Consignment stock; Lead time reductions; Other relevant actions as defined in strategic flight plan actions
  • Develop processes, tools, analytics, dashboards relevant to the assigned category with help of tools and development team members.
  • In collaboration with other Category Managers secure the TCO cost optimization
  • Promote internally and externally digitalization and process automation, in collaboration with Operations and Product Engineers.
  • Share best practices globally inside of SCM team and colleagues.
  • Lead frequent business reviews (e.g. performance monitoring) and management meetings with key suppliers, in collaboration with colleagues from Quality and Project Management.
  • Escalation level for all TEC locations in case of issues with on-time delivery and quality.
Your background
  • Bachelor of Science or Master’s in electrical engineering, or equivalent with Marketing and sales experience.
  • Language: English University degree Master of Science in Engineering or Economics.
  • Demonstrated experience in category management and project sourcing,
  • Excellent leadership skills and collaboration between different divisions and business areas.
  • Fluent and collaborative with wide network of suppliers, internal or external customers, Local Divisions, R&D, PEQ etc.
  • Fast problem-solving skills.
  • Patient, passionate, ability to work under pressure, persistent with continuously improvement mindset.
  • Pro-active and independent decision maker carrying the responsibility.
  • Cultural awareness, good communication and negotiation skills, good argumentation, and ability to influence internally and externally.
  • Good networking and social skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
