BC Financial Search is working with an established accountancy practice in Leeds to recruit an experienced Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis.
This is a broad, hands-on position suited to somebody with good experience working within an accountancy practice or bookkeeping environment who enjoys managing their own workload and having regular contact with clients.
The role will be predominantly office-based in Leeds, with occasional travel to client premises where required.
The firm is open-minded on qualification level. You could be studying towards AAT, already AAT qualified, or simply have strong practical experience and be qualified by experience. Study support can also be provided for somebody who would like to continue their professional development.
Salary is expected to be in the region of £32,000–£40,000, depending on experience.
Duties and responsibilities
The successful candidate will work across a varied portfolio of clients, with responsibilities including:
- Completing bookkeeping for a range of businesses and sole traders
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Supporting clients with Making Tax Digital requirements and submissions
- Preparing management accounts
- Maintaining accurate accounting records and reconciliations
- Working extensively with cloud accounting software including Xero and QuickBooks
- Liaising directly with clients regarding their bookkeeping and accounting requirements
- Visiting client premises when required
- Supporting the wider accounts team with additional accounting work where appropriate
The position offers plenty of variety and would suit somebody who enjoys working directly with clients rather than performing a purely transactional bookkeeping role.
Experience and qualifications
The firm is flexible regarding formal qualifications and is particularly interested in candidates with strong practical bookkeeping experience.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous bookkeeping experience, ideally gained within an accountancy practice or similar environment
- Good working knowledge of Xero and QuickBooks
- Experience preparing VAT returns
- Knowledge of Making Tax Digital requirements
- Some exposure to management accounts
- Good attention to detail and organisational skills
- Confidence communicating directly with clients
- The ability to manage your own workload and deadlines
Candidates may be:
- Studying towards an AAT qualification
- Already AAT qualified
- Qualified by experience with a strong bookkeeping background
