The Maintenance Technician will support both maintenance and operations teams to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the anaerobic digestion (AD) plant and associated equipment.
The role involves executing planned, reactive, and emergency maintenance activities in line with CMMS schedules, ensuring work is completed accurately and on time to maximise plant uptime and asset reliability.
The successful candidate will apply mechanical and/or electrical fault-finding expertise, maintain accurate maintenance records, identify equipment trends, and support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives. Close collaboration with site teams is essential to ensure safe and efficient plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead by example in safety, promoting a strong safety culture aligned with Don’t Walk By and Work Safe / Home Safe principles
• Follow and support the development of SOPs, Risk Assessments, Permit to Work, and LOTO procedures
• Carry out, verify, and challenge isolations in line with LOTO standards (acting as Permit Holder/Isolating Authority where authorised)
• Execute planned, reactive, and emergency maintenance safely, on time, and to a high standard
• Diagnose faults and perform mechanical and/or electrical repairs across plant and equipment
• Identify defects, abnormal conditions, and early signs of failure, taking corrective action or escalating where required
• Prioritise critical plant and equipment to minimise risk and downtime
• Accurately record maintenance activities within the CMMS system
• Analyse equipment performance and support root cause analysis to prevent repeat failures
• Contribute to reliability and continuous improvement initiatives
• Ensure compliance with PAS110 where applicable
• Support Management of Change (MOC) processes, including temporary modifications
• Assist with installation, commissioning, and integration of plant improvements and capital projects
• Support maintenance planning through PPMs, inspections, and testing
• Follow stores and procurement procedures, including stock control and audit participation
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and support 5S practices
• Work collaboratively across maintenance and operations teams
• Communicate clearly and promptly on issues, risks, and progress
• Participate in on-call rota and support shutdowns and emergency breakdowns
• Provide flexible support across the Moray Hub, including absence cover and peak periods

Experience
Essential:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role
• Experience maintaining industrial plant or process equipment
• Strong fault-finding and repair experience (mechanical and/or electrical)
• Experience with pumps, rotating equipment, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, or instrumentation
Preferred:
• Experience in COMPEX / ATEX environments
• Experience using CMMS systems (e.g. Agility, Maximo, SAP)
• Knowledge of anaerobic digestion or similar process industries
• Background in energy, utilities, waste processing, distilling, or manufacturing
Qualifications
Essential:
• Mechanical or Trade Qualification
• NVQ / SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
• Full, valid driving licence
Preferred:
• HNC in Engineering
• IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)
• Current Mechanical COMPEX certification (EX01–EX04 or EX11)
• FLT / Telehandler licence
