How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

Skills for Life Coach

Salisbury

£22,084 rising to £22,548 per year (Full Time Equivalent £25,304 rising to £25,835 per year)

Do you have a passion for supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to achieve greater independence and reach their full potential? Whether you already have experience working in education, care, health, youth work, or support services—or you're looking to bring your transferable skills into a rewarding education setting—this could be the perfect opportunity.

Based at our Salisbury Campus, you'll join our dedicated team, supporting students with a range of additional needs including Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD). Every day brings new opportunities to make a meaningful difference, helping students develop the confidence, life skills, and independence they need for adulthood.

Working closely with the Skills for Life Lead Practitioner, you'll provide personalised support to named students, helping them access learning, college facilities, and opportunities within the local community. Your role will empower students to develop the skills, resilience, and self-belief needed to make informed choices about their future and achieve their personal goals.

What We Offer

Salary: £22,084 rising to £22,548 (Full time equivalent £25,304 - £25,835 per year)

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time 37 hours per week, Term Time Only 36+2 weeks per year

Outstanding Benefits

Local Government Pension Scheme – a secure investment in your future

Generous Holiday Entitlement – 30 days, pro rata paid annual leave plus 8 days, pro rata paid bank holidays

College closure and wellbeing days – including a 2-week, pro rata paid Christmas closure

Employee Assistance Programme – 24/7 confidential wellbeing, legal, and financial support

Free On-Site Gyms – available across multiple campuses

Lifestyle Discounts – savings on retail, technology, travel, and leisure

Cycle-to-Work Scheme – stay active while saving money

Professional Development – ongoing training and career development opportunities

Additional Perks – discounted meals, hair & beauty services, and reduced attraction entry

A rewarding role where you'll directly influence students' confidence, independence, and future success while enjoying excellent benefits and career development opportunities.

What You'll Do

Build positive, supportive relationships that help students achieve their individual goals

Work alongside the Skills for Life Lead Practitioner to develop personalised learning and independence plans

Provide one-to-one and small group support to enable students to access learning and college life

Support students in developing essential life, social, communication, and independence skills

Assist students with transitions into college and throughout their learning journey

Contribute to annual reviews and monitor student progress against agreed outcomes

Encourage positive health and wellbeing, signposting students to appropriate college services where needed

Deliver targeted interventions that build resilience, confidence, and independence

Support students in accessing the local community and developing skills for life beyond education

Maintain accurate student records and contribute to effective communication within the wider support team

Assist with the use and reporting of specialist equipment and assistive technology where appropriate

What You'll Bring

A genuine passion for supporting young people with SEND to achieve their full potential

A calm, patient, friendly, and approachable manner

The ability to build trusting relationships with students through personalised support

Creativity and flexibility to adapt your approach to meet individual learning and support needs

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

The ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records

English and Maths qualifications at Level 2 (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent)

A relevant Level 3 qualification, or willingness to work towards one

Experience supporting individuals with additional learning needs, disabilities, or complex needs is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in education, care, health, youth work, social care, or other people-focused roles.

Why Choose This Path?

Make a genuine difference every day—without:

High-pressure sales targets or performance-driven environments

Shift work, evenings, or unsociable hours

Feeling like you're just another number

Instead, enjoy a rewarding career where you'll support students to build confidence, gain independence, and prepare for fulfilling adult lives—all within a supportive team committed to inclusion and student success.

Make a move that truly matters

If you're looking for a career where compassion, patience, and creativity can transform lives, we'd love to hear from you. Join Wiltshire College & University Centre and help our Skills for Life students develop the confidence, independence, and skills they need for a successful future.

Closing Date: 18/08/2026

Vacancies may close early if sufficient applications have been received; therefore, we would encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.

Safer Recruitment
