How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

About Us

Kiloh Associates is a leading civil engineering and construction design consultancy delivering high-quality temporary works and structural solutions across the UK. We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Temporary Works Design Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team to support our expanding portfolio of work.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Principal Water Resource Specialist to join our growing environmental team at Kiloh Associates. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong professional who is looking to take a leading role in delivering high-quality environmental/engineering consultancy across a diverse portfolio of projects.

You will work with clients, regulators, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams, providing expert advice on a range of hydrology, hydrogeology, and water environment issues. The role will involve a combination of technical delivery, project management, client development and mentoring of less experienced colleagues.

Our projects span sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, development, utilities and natural capital, providing the opportunity to work on varied and challenging environmental projects throughout Scotland and the wider UK.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of hydrology and/or hydrogeology assessments for a range of environmental and development projects.
  • Provide technical input into Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), planning applications, environmental reports, regulatory submissions.
  • Design and oversee field investigations, site surveys, monitoring programmes and data collection.
  • Assess potential impacts on surface water, groundwater, watercourses, wetlands and other water-dependent receptors.
  • Develop and review technical reports, assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide expert technical advice to clients and project teams.
  • Manage projects, budgets, programmes and technical deliverables.
  • Liaise effectively with clients, regulators, landowners, contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Support business development through preparation of proposals, fee estimates and technical approaches.
  • Identify opportunities to develop new and existing client relationships.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and support to junior and intermediate consultants.
  • Contribute to the continued development of our hydrology and hydrogeology services.

About you

We are seeking an experienced consultant with a strong technical background in hydrology, hydrogeology and/or a closely related environmental discipline.

We recognise that great candidates do not always meet every criterion listed below. If your experience is closely aligned with the role and you believe you could make a positive contribution to the team, we would encourage you to apply:

  • A relevant degree in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Geology or a related subject.
  • Relevant professional experience within environmental consultancy or a similar technical environment, with experience operating at senior or Principal level, or readiness to take that next step.
  • Strong knowledge of the Scottish water environment and relevant planning and environmental legislation.
  • Experience undertaking hydrological and/or hydrogeological assessments and environmental impact assessments.
  • Experience of working with regulators such as SEPA and other relevant Scottish stakeholders.
  • Strong technical report-writing and communication skills.
  • Experience managing projects and providing technical leadership.
  • The ability to develop trusted relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • A proactive, commercially aware and solutions-focused approach.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites where required.

Membership of a relevant professional body, such as CIWEM, Geological Society or a similar organisation, and/or chartership would be advantageous.

Why join us?

This role offers the opportunity to join a supportive and growing consultancy where you can combine technical excellence with genuine career progression within a friendly supportive team. You will have the autonomy to lead projects and develop client relationships while working alongside experienced environmental professionals across multiple disciplines.

We offer:

  • A competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
  • A varied portfolio of technically interesting projects across Scotland and the UK.
  • Opportunities for professional development and chartership.
  • A collaborative, supportive working environment.
  • The opportunity to influence and grow our and your hydrology and hydrogeology capability.
  • A clear pathway for progression into technical, project management and senior leadership roles.

If you are an experienced water resource professional looking for a Principal-level opportunity where you can make a real contribution to both project delivery and the continued growth of an environmental consultancy, we would be keen to hear from you.

How to Apply:
