The Combined Cadet Force is an integral part of life at Malvern College. Every student spends time in the Cadet Force and many cadets stay in the CCF until they are 18. The current contingent establishment is 200 cadets supported by 12 dedicated and qualified staff. There are Army, Royal Marine and RAF sections allowing pupils to gain a taste of all aspects of the cadet world.

The CCF parades weekly on a Friday and conducts a wide and diverse range of training in line with the relevant syllabi. We are fortunate to have an onsite 25-metre small bore range which is regularly used by cadets.

Further to this there are regular Flying Days, Field Days and Annual Camps which allow our cadets to work with a wide range of military staff outside of the Malvern College Community. The CCF prides itself on regularly competing at local and regional levels in a wide range of events such as the Pringle Trophy, the Cambrian Patrol competition and the RAF RAST competition.

The Role

The interim SSI will be responsible to the Contingent Commander for the following duties:

Training

To assist the Officers and Cadet NCOs with all aspects of training.
To participate in all training of the Corps as deemed necessary by the Contingent Commander.
To prepare the Contingent for the Annual Inspection, to include administration, formal parade and the setting up of other activities and competitions.
Security

To act as Unit Security Officer.
To be responsible to the Contingent Commander for all aspects of security to include weapons, ammunition, MOD controlled store, publications, equipment and clothing on charge to the Unit.
Quartermaster

To assist the Officers by acting as Quartermaster, responsible for all stores, maintenance, issuing, keeping records (tri service), security and charging for kit loss.
Accounts

To assist the Contingent Commander in the proper running of the Unit accounts. This will include MOD impress account and the CCF private account.
Administration

To assist the Contingent Commander in aspects of administration within the CCF office.
Handling of all CCF mail in the first instance and dealing with routine matters as appropriate.
To organise transport, rations, training areas, ranges and equipment for field days and exercises.
To assist the Officers in the preparation of risk assessments for all CCF training.
Liaison

To liaise with the Admin Assistant and with other Service contacts under the instruction of the Contingent Commander.
To liaise with SO3 G7 Cadets at Brigade as directed by the Officer Commanding.
Shooting

To assist the Officers and qualified civilian staff with shooting, full and small bore.
To administer all aspects of shooting and range work, weapons and ammunition on charge to the Unit.
Camps

To assist the Officers in the organisation and administration of weekend and annual camps. It will be required of the SSI to attend all camps and field days in person.
General

To help the Officers and NCOs to create an atmosphere conducive to the fulfilment of the aims of the CCF.
To undertake various tasks the Headmaster/Commanding Officer may from time to time require, which are not specifically mentioned in this job description.
To assist in the promotion and development of the self-reliance and leadership skills of the cadets in line with whole College policy on personal development.
To be responsible for the running of the College Adventure Training Store, kit issues and receipts. Maintenance of equipment purchased and accounting of equipment.
The role will also require nights out for Field Days, and on other occasions.
General Requirements

In accordance with the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (as amended) and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (as amended) you must take reasonable care not to endanger yourself or other persons whilst at work. You must co-operate with the College to enable it to comply with its legal duties for Health and Safety.
