The successful candidate for the role of Quality Engineer will be a hands-on QC professional responsible for taking new projects from trials through to stable production, owning core APQP deliverables and ensuring robust measurement, reporting and problem-solving.
Duties and responsibilities of Quality Engineer:
* Lead and maintain APQP quality deliverables including Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEA / FMEA and Control Plans
* Support new projects from trial builds through PPAP-style readiness and implementation into production
* Produce dimensional inspection reports against engineering drawings and CAD data
* Perform and coordinate inspection using metrology equipment including Verniers, shadow graphs, CMM and Romer arms
* Program and run CMM inspections using PC-DMIS – essential
* Design and specify gauges/fixtures and create/maintain gauge instructions
* Create tool trial reports and quality feedback following trials
* Complete feasibility studies for new tooling and process routes
* Liaise directly with customers' engineering/quality teams, toolmakers and external suppliers
* Manage customer complaints using structured problem-solving (leading 8D investigations, containment, root cause and CAPA)
* Create and maintain SOPs and work instructions (including injection moulding, chrome plating and re-work instructions)
* Working to tight tolerances and in-process measurements
Skills/attributes required by successful candidate for the role of Quality Engineer:
* Previous experience in a QC/Quality Engineering role within a manufacturing environment
* Strong working knowledge of APQP (Control Plans, FMEA, PFMEA, and Process Flow documentation) – essential
* Experience with Romer arm scanning (or similar portable CMM/scan arms)
* Strong dimensional inspection capability and confidence interpreting engineering drawings
* Structured problem-solving experience, including 8D complaint handling
* Ability to write clear, usable SOPs and work instructions
* Attention to detail with a "right first time" mindset
* Effective communication skills and a collaborative approach when working cross-functionally
* Team player, with pride in one’s work and a desire for success
* Be adaptable and willing to go the extra mile to meet tight deadlines
Location: Redditch, Worcestershire
Hours of Work: Day shifts with early Friday finish
Pay: Up to £40,000, dependent upon experience
