How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

At AWE, it's not just a job, it's far more than that. Our shared purpose is to help keep the nation safe. Could this role be the opportunity for you to play your part?

The NIS capability provides through-life support for the MOD's suite of RDME. The facility is UKAS ISO/IEC 17025 accredited. The team also provides expert technical advice and evaluation, supports high profile projects and responds to high priority demands to meet the needs of defence and industry.

Who are we looking for?

We do need you to have the following:

NVQ/BTEC or equivalent in an electrical / electronic engineering discipline.
Ability to fault‑find down to component level using schematics, test equipment, and local work instructions.
Confident with carrying out soldering, rework and safe handling of delicate components.
Skilled with the use if test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and other diagnostic tools.
Articulate and capable of producing accurate, clean and reliable repairs with strong adherence to work instructions and documentation to ensure quality control.
Possess a problem-solving mindset, able to work independently, think logically and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
Understanding the use of hand tools and methods of work within an electro-mechanical environment.
Confident to carry out basic part identification and procurement.
Be willing to undertake training/repair work (both nationally and overseas when required) and carry out occasional work on board naval platforms in support of critical work.
Full UK Driving licence - Cat B / no more than 6 points

While this isn't a checklist, we'd love to hear from you if you have experience in any of the following areas:

Experience or knowledge of working in the defence sector or with radiation protection equipment.
Working in high volume 'quality controlled' regulated repair environment, delivering to specified targets and priorities.
Working with and managing COSHH‑regulated products safely and correctly.
Working as an integral and effective member of a small team, with the ability to flex and support others when required.
Customer focused delivery, requiring the ability to clearly explain repair findings or technical issues when required.
Be willing to undertake possible ship trials national and overseas training.

You'll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines.

Work hard, be rewarded:

We ask a lot and set the bar high because our work truly matters. In return we offer balance, with award winning benefits including:

270 hours of annual leave.
Market leading contributory pension scheme (we will pay between 9% and 13% of your pensionable pay depending on your contributions).
Family friendly policies: Maternity Leave - 39 Weeks Full Pay and Paternity Leave - 4 Weeks Full Pay.

Special Leave Policy including paid time off for volunteering, public service (including reserve forces) and caring.

The 'Working at AWE' page on our website is where you can find full details in the 'AWE Benefits Guide'.

Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Alverstoke.
