Job Description

The Maths Teacher delivers high-quality teaching and learning experiences to pupils in accordance with the national curriculum and school policies. The role involves planning, preparing and delivering lessons that engage and challenge learners, assessing pupil progress, and supporting individual learning needs. The postholder maintains a positive and inclusive classroom environment, encourages pupil participation, and promotes high standards of behaviour and achievement.

Job Duties

Plan and deliver effective and engaging mathematics lessons that meet the needs of all learners and adhere to the national curriculum.
Assess, record and report on pupil progress and attainment regularly, providing constructive feedback to pupils and parents or carers.
Develop and implement appropriate schemes of work, lesson plans and teaching resources.
Monitor and support pupil behaviour, creating a safe and supportive learning environment.
Identify and address individual pupil learning needs, including providing additional support or interventions where necessary.
Participate in departmental and whole-school meetings and contribute to curriculum development and school improvement initiatives.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments and other relevant documentation.
Promote the school’s values and uphold safeguarding and health and safety procedures at all times.

Required Qualifications

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
Degree or equivalent qualification in Mathematics or a closely related subject.

Education

Completed teacher training with a focus on mathematics education.
Ongoing commitment to continuing professional development in teaching and subject knowledge.

Experience

Experience teaching mathematics to secondary school pupils, preferably across Key Stages 3 and 4.
Proven ability to plan, deliver and assess engaging lessons that promote pupil progress.
Experience working within a school environment, understanding school routines and classroom management.

Knowledge and Skills

Strong subject knowledge in mathematics, including curriculum content and assessment requirements.
Effective classroom management and behaviour management techniques.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage pupils and liaise with colleagues and parents or carers.
Ability to differentiate teaching to meet the diverse needs of learners.
Organisational skills, including record keeping and time management.
Proficient in using information and communication technology to support teaching and learning.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching GCSE Mathematics and knowledge of examination specifications.
Additional training or qualifications in special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Experience of working with pupils with a range of abilities and backgrounds.
Familiarity with educational assessment tools and data analysis.

Working Conditions

Full-time temporary position, typically working during standard school hours with occasional additional duties such as meetings or school events.
Work takes place primarily within a classroom environment in a school setting located in Redcar, North Yorkshire.
Requires standing for extended periods and the ability to engage actively with pupils.
Potential requirement to adapt to changes in curriculum or school policies during the temporary assignment.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
