How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job description

Do you want to play a key role in keeping a high‑performance logistics operation running safely and efficiently? Are you a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving problems, maintaining equipment, and improving site performance? If so, you could be the newest addition to our team as a Maintenance Engineer in Larkhall.

Be part of the movement – and play your part.

About the role

As a Maintenance Engineer, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all site infrastructure across our Larkhall logistics facility. This includes refrigerated warehousing, yard assets, and office facilities. You’ll deliver both planned maintenance and rapid response repairs, helping to protect operational continuity.

You will be responsible for:

Delivering planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across refrigeration systems, MHE, lighting, and building infrastructure

Diagnosing and resolving breakdowns quickly to minimise operational disruption

Supporting refrigeration systems and coordinating with external refrigeration contractors

Maintaining dock levellers, roller doors, bay equipment, and safety systems

Overseeing yard and trailer park infrastructure including lighting, barriers, and hard standing areas

Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements (LOLER, PUWER, F Gas, H&S) and maintaining accurate records

Driving continuous improvement, managing spare parts, and working closely with operations to prioritise maintenance

About you

You’ll be a time served engineer or hold an equivalent qualification in mechanical, electrical, or multi‑skilled engineering. You’ll have strong fault-finding ability across mechanical and electrical systems, with experience in facilities or industrial environments. Knowledge of refrigeration systems and chilled environments would be advantageous.

You’ll thrive in this role if you take a proactive, safety-first approach, identifying issues early and taking ownership to resolve them. You’ll be organised and disciplined, able to manage your workload while maintaining accurate records. Strong communication skills are key, as you’ll work closely with contractors, warehouse teams, and management. A calm, solutions focused mindset will help you succeed, especially when responding to urgent issues in a live operation.

We think the strongest teams are built on diversity and inclusivity. Contrasting opinions, varied skills and strong characters bring out the best in us all. And we cannot wait for you to join.

Working at DFDS

Join the movement and grow with us.

We offer an extraordinary work environment that requires a special bond with your colleagues

While you’re with us, we want you to develop. At DFDS, we believe that development happens first and foremost through activities in the workplace. We will also offer training courses that can support you in your role, if needed.

Now about what we can give you. You’ll be able to access some fantastic benefits such as:

Life assurance cover

Contributory company pension scheme

Holiday Purchase Scheme

Free ferry travel for up to 4 guests between Dover and Calais / Newcastle and Amsterdam with no limit on trips

Full employee assistance programme including:

Proactive financial, emotional, mental, and physical health care support including face to face counselling, fast 24/7 access to a GP, a second medical opinion and legal support for colleagues and their family.

Huge range of retail discounts from high street and online retailers

Access to myStrength, our Wellbeing platform, which has plenty of content to support and improve your mental wellness needs.

Access to mental health first aid and opportunity to join support webinars with a focus on all areas of positive wellbeing.

Cashback on health care including dental, optical, physiotherapy, prescriptions, specialist consultations and much more.

Are we a match? Then what are you waiting for? Apply now.

If you think your personality, skills, experience, and desire match this role, we’d love to hear from you. Please send us your CV as soon as possible, as we’re keen to meet potential candidates on an ongoing basis.

We look forward to hearing from you
